Chess Club to allow those students interested to learn and play the game. Our Activities include, matches with other schools, competing for the New Jersey team championship, and the United States high school championship. Outing Club The Outing Club, composed of students from the junior and senior classes, is designed to foster group participation in outdoor activities. Students and teachers combine their knowledge and interests to plan hiking, skiing, camping, canoeing, bicycling, and backpack- ing excursions. Bible Club The Bible Club is a newly formed club at East. Through speakers and open discussions the members try to gain insights into the Bible. In spite of the short time the club has been in existence, it has already enhanced the spirit of the members. Rifle Club The Rifle Club was formed this year through popular demand. The Rifle Club aims to incorporate rifle shooting for pleasure and competi- tion as a new sport at East. Future plans for the Minutemen Marks- man are outdoor shooting, matches against other schools, and partici- pating in statewide competition.

ROW 2 - Mike Kovonuk, Miss Schiller, Nancy Thomas, Pat Foley, Mark Tenzer, Ami Hoffman. Teen Arts Festival The Teen Arts Festival presents a series of showcases for student work. All fields related to the arts are repre- sented such as - creative writing, cre- ative dramatics, music, dance, films and traditional arts. Students compete in the Somerset County Teen Arts Festival and hope to be selected for the State Teen Festival. Varsity Club The Varsity Club is a service organ- ization which attempts to serve the school and community. You can attain membership into the Varsity Club by winning a varsity letter in any sport. Their activities include selling candy and calenders, taking trips to profes- sional games, working at athletic con- tests and other school events. Mat Maids The purpose of the mat maids is to promote high school wrestling. Their activities include publicizing each meet and taking statistics at the meets.
