“ISTORY i H tg, an E In the fall of 1939, five little innocent children with smiles on their faces and unaware of the things to come toddled up the hill to their school of learning. we were: Richard Carlson, Clark Cole, David Campbell, and Barbara Barnhart. Clark Cole being the only one having gone all twelve years at B. H. S. , Jessie Brown guided our foot-steps the first year. Upon returning the following year, we found Miss Ione Swanlund, as our instructor and it was al- so in this year that we were Joined by Dick Brawdy and Lyle Williams. Florence McCre1ght was our third grade teacher. Our fourth year found us in a different room and with a new teacher, Vera Wollenhaupt. In the middle of the year Barbara left us to continue school at Omaha. Miss Wollenhaupt returned to see us through the fifth grade. Margaret Jones was our instructor during our sixth and seventh grades. Our eighth grade found us with Murriell Shatava as our teacher. We had three new additions to our class: Max Hurd, Delmar Williams, and lohn Vetter- lck. During the year Beverly Wyllie and Barbara Barnhart joined us. Through the years we had the usual trials and tribulations of elementary students. It was a happy day for us when we received our eighth grade diplomas which cert- ified that we were now ready to begin high school. High School here we come! In the fall of l9h7, fourteen shy and meek freshmen entered the halls of dear old B. H. S. we were: Myrna Cass, Helen Carl, beverly Wyllie, Phyllis Christensen, Barbara Barnhart, Phyllis Jean Campen Clark Cole, Jack McDermott, David Campbell, Marion Saylor, Kohn Vet- terick, Dick Brawdy, Max Hurd, and Delmar Williams. Our sponsor was Dick Clark. We were duly initiated into high school by the class of l9b8, who were very generous with the paddles, chocolate-covered soap and all other activities that make up initiation. During the year Phyllis Christensen left us to begin married life. Our Sophomore year found us with only twelve members having lost Marion Saylor who decided to continue school at Greenfield. Our sponsor was Mrs. Golz. During the year John Vetterick left us to continue school at Indian- ola. We entered our Junior year full of high spirits for we were now upper- classmen. We were happy to have John Vetterick back with us. The main events of the year were our Junior-Senior banquet which was held at Creston and our Junior Class Play, 'Faith, Hope, and Flarity'. We received our class rings this year and of course we thought they were the prettiest to be found. Our sponsor was Larry Love. At the beginning of the Senior year we had eleven in our class,Dav1d Camp bell having moved to Greenfield. Our first undertaking was the initiation of the Freshmen. The high school annual was our special project of the year. Our class flower is the white rose and our class colors are fushia and white. Our notto is, 'Out of the Harbor into the Sea'. Some of the high-lights of the year was our Skip Day and Senior Class Play. Mr. Jones was our sponsor. Our last four years have been very happy ones. Our teachers have done every- thing that could be done to make life pleasant. Our associations with one another have been pleasant and we have made friendships that will continue for the rest of our lives. With this we bid farewell to B. H. S.
