HOME ECONOMICS The Home Economics Class this year consisted of the Junior and Sopho- more girls. They were: Margaret Bower, Viola Ahnen, Kathryn Gipple, Myrna Cass, Beverly Wyllie, Helen Carl, Barbara Barnhart, and Phyllis Campen. These girls served a very delicious Carnival supper in the Primary Room which was transformed into a comfortable dining room. The girls were dress- ed in blue skirts, trimmed with eyelet, and crisp white blouses. Popcorn, apples, and candy were sold by the Home Economic girls at all the ball games. This money was used to buy new equipment for the Home Ec- onom1cs'Room. A new Singer sewing machine was purchased for the girls. Household management was a main unit of study during the year. Many different articles of clothing were made and were shown at a style show. A May Tea for the mothers brought the year to a very successful close. AFRICULTURE While the Sophomore and Junior girls took Home Economics, the boys took Agriculture They were Dean Rechtenbach, Johnie Warrior, Leo Raasch, Leo Chafa, Leo Rechtenbach, David Campbell, Clark Cole, Max Hurd, Dick Brawdy, Delmar Williams, and Jack McDermott They studied hybrid corn and made several fleld trips to examine different types Different varieties of oats were also studied A course in farm shop was included in this class The boys made bookcases, porch swlngs, wardrobes, utility cabinets, lawn Ch8lTS, and other articles for the farm home They also made a set of backboards to be used as play ground equipment here at school The boys are hoping this new equipment will bring forth several experts at the game of basketball Smashed thumbs and small cuts were the evidences of this course but it was engoyed despite these mishaps During the last two months of school, rationing and livestock feeding were studied GLIDER During most of the second semester, the Senior Class directed by Mrs Robert Preston, tried to make this Glider a great success We went to the surrounding towns and sold 8dV6It1SlHE Then came the hard part of writing and typing articles and ads One day was devoted to picture taking 'e also worked several evenings on this project BAROMFTER On November 2 the newspaper staff was elected by the student body to wr1te articles for the Barometer section which appeared in each edltion of the Bridgewater Times during the school months A report of the varied 8CtiVit1SS and special class work was given from each class in high school and from the grades The sports column was given much space The humor columnist occasionally added 'their' bit t the news Other items as the calendar, locals, and humor were found in the Barometer tant editor Helen Carl and Myrna Cass were feature editors Leo Rechten bach and Leo Chafa were boys sports reporters and Beverly Nyllie and Sherry Clpple were glrls sports reporters music reporters were Kathryn Gipple and Davld Campbell Home vCOHOmlCS was wrltten by Phyllls Campen and Viola nh en The Church edlto s were Barbara Barnhart and Clark Cole Grades news was wrltten by Lax Hurd and Ruth Raasch The soclety news edltors were Delores Ruch and Elma Rechterbach The Humor was wrltten by Varlhm Schrader and Jack McDermott I' , f , O . .
