W n v-:N In 1880, the Spring Creek Normal School and Collegiate Institute was founded by David Christian Flory. Although the school was originated for the children of Brethren families, all who sincerely sought knowledge were welcomed by the founder. Later, known as the Virginia Normal School, the institution graduated its second class in 1887. During the third session, the school was moved to the more convenient location in Bridgewater, Virginia. The name was changed to Bridgewater College a few years later in honor of the town.
