C. team for many years, winning nine games and losing seven. Starting with two lettermen, Rieley and Houff, Coach Smith developed a team with inexperienced men and cle- vised a type of game to suit his team. During the year, Richards developed into an outstanding player closely' followed by VValston, Rudy, Sanger, Bixler, and Nliller. These were the chief men in the team as the season progressed. The Fagles opened the season by defeating Gallaudet for the hrst B. C. win in two years. The following night the Eagles were hosts to Randolph-lVIacong showing good form, B. C. defeated them 50-31. ln the last game before the holidays, the Eagles journeyed to L5-'nehburg and overwhelmed them by the record score of 93-33. The season opened with Elizabethtown on our College home floor. With greater height and agility, our girls won an exciting game by a score of 23 to 20. The wider experience and sharp-shooting ability of the Msldison girls proved too much for the local lassics as we lost I9 to 34. l ' The next week found the girls as guests of Madison, to experience about I . . . the same circumstances as the previous week. However, our girls showed some . i . . . improvement. 'I his time we were on the short end of the score of Z1 to 49. The same week the girls enjoyed a long trip to Elizabethtown. VVith many urravoidable handicaps, the girls lost I7 to 21. Time seemed to run out on the team as they were steadily overcoming all their dilliculties and handicaps. ' The last game of the season was perhaps the high light of the season even though the girls lost a valiant hght by a score of 15 to 21. The Farmville hos- ptfality will long he remembered in the hearts of the girls that made the trip. Outstanding in their playing ability were Gene Bowman, an accurate long shot, .lean Dtltliy, a sure shot under the basket, Connie Dewese, a lanky guard, and Eleanor Hoover, a versatile player either at forward or guard. N . J . if MNRGARET DIXON Manager S .ervefzty-.raven BASKETBALL STARS Bob Houlf leaves behind him one of the most brilliant basketball careers that any player could hope to make at any college. Bob was iirst in the state of Virginia in total points scored for the season even though he played fewer games than the several men behind him. His record is 341 points in 16 games, an average of 21.3 points per game. Bob is ranked among the top scorers of the nation by the Associated Press. In their final poll he ranked 17th for total points scored and Sth in average points per game. Had he been allowed to play full games in two instances, he probably would have broken some individual scoring records for indivi- dual games. Twice he scored a total of 33 points in separate BOB HOUFF games. Bob's excellent ball handling, over-head shot from the corners, and a one-hand pivot faway from the basket at one side ofthe free-throw circlej were his favorite spots. Bob was a good team man, keeping every man on the floor working hard while he himself was giving his all, The loss of Bob will be very definitely felt next year and almost im- possible to fill, at the present, at least. Perhaps one of the most promising athletes to ever attend Bridgewater is Bob Richards, a sophomore this year. Coming, with no experience in basketball, the middle of last season, he displayed a strong determination to contribute his Part to a good basketball team. His unlimited energy and great speed in ball- handling made him ai great asset to the team. Along with this he devoloped an accurate one-hand shot that placed him Sth in the Old Dominion in scoring. His average per game was 15.9 points. Bob will make a line nucleus around which to build a team next year. BOB RICHARDS Sevelzfy-sigh! Robertson, returning for baseball this season, prospects are not too bright with the limited material available. Robertson's ankle, broken early in the season, is n definite blow to our hopes. Virgil Huffninn, 11 returned service man, will carry the greater part of the pitching responsibilities, with Byrd Teter and Lester Rudy doing relief hurling.
