President Vice-President '- Sc'L'fL'l1-IFJ' Treasurer l9lI-8 Class History It was june 8, 1948, and we were walking through the halls of N. H. S. bidding our last farewell, when our thoughts were taken back to those memorable days of September, 1944. When we entered N. H. S. as freshmen, many of us were strangers, but it didn't take long for us to become acquainted with one another and with life as it is in high school. In September we began our two biggest years at N. H. S. As sophomores we presented a skit which was written by our class. ln our junior year we were all showing our class ringsg we received them in November. In March we presented our biggest project, the junior Play, Pig- tails . This play was very successful and really made our treasury look good. Our last year arrives-we are now Seniors . This is a very eventful year for us. We sponsored a Hallowe'en Dance in October. Boy! what a hungry crowdg the hot dogs were gone by ten o'clock. Our class play, entitled The Jinx , was presented in December. This was a busy month for us for we sold Christmas candy. Another dance was sponsored by us in February, yes, you guessed it'-a Valentine Dance. April came around and with it the annual senior trip. Our four days in Washington were well spent. june 8 marked the end of our days at N. H. S. We will always remember our classmates and teachers whom we learned to know so well. Class Prophecy Let us look into the crystal ball and see what the future holds for the class of 1948. Oh, yes, Uncle Sam has had a part in planning their future. Why, here is Admiral Byron Overbeck. We are honored to have with us the most famous singer on Broadway, Barbara Kihm. She has Betty Lou Yost as her singing partner, and they are sure of success. Our glamorous Shirley Gruver is now a Top-notch model with jack Powers. lt seems as if our talented members are very successful, for Evelyn Litzenberger is taking an art course at Temple. Ray- mond Litschauer is coach of a basketball team and his star player is Fred Mathis, they won all their games. When you telephone from Ferndale, your operator is none other than Alberta Hindel. At the present time, Mary jane Beck is work- ing on a new invention, a new method of cleaning eggs. It seems as if time repeats itself, but now on a greater scale. The president of this class, Harry Pursell, is now President of the United States, and he is happily married, with a home, wife, and children. These were always his ideas of success. After having completed four years at Penn State, Donald Ward is a successful agriculture teacher. Dorothy Feuersten is a private secretary for Mr. j. M. Fink, and Marie Trouts is President Pursell's private secretary. john Diehl is now running an Improvement School, whose main topic is l'How to Keep from Growing Old . Walter Wolfinger is leading a very leisurely life. Lillian Wampfler has finally settled down with her john. jack Schmidt is a lifeguard at Warren Lake. Eliza- beth Fleck and Anna Mills have accomplished a lot for Woman Suffrage, and one of them is bound to be our next President. Yes, our crystal ball has proven that this class has a very successful future. Twenty Senior Snapshots S4 Sig-' The Senior Play The lights were dimmed, the audience hushed, and the curtain rose on our Senior Play, The Jinx . The audiences that witnessed our three performances gave us ample proof of our success. lt is a bright and amusing story of the Pipers, a typical American family. The plot of The Jinx centers around a marriage license bureau which is run by Harlow Piper. The whole play is an entire mixup, but all is straightened out in the end to give it a happy ending. We have endeavored to edit a book that presents life at Nockamixon as it really is. This yearbook we do feel has some new ideas and arrangements that equal and pos- sibly surpass books of former years. Game Club The Game Club contains the largest mem- bership of any N. H. S. club. During favor- able weather the organization engages in numerous out-of-doors team-sports, such as softball for the girls and soccer for the boys. Cold or rainy days, we find the members in the cafeteria. Here, in the school's largest room, the group dances, plays checkers, chess, table tennis or just socializes. Numerous committees are necessary for the operation of the Game Club. These com- mittees are the program, preparation and clean-up groups. Members of the committees have done an excellent job in keeping things going. Cooking Club With the new equipment for the home economics room the twenty-one members of the Cooking Club planned and prepared candies, cookies, custards, etc. A group of two or three girls demonstrated the prepara- tion and served the food to the other girls at each meeting. Anna Mill. a senior girl, was the president. News Reel Club The News Reel Club. which has been in existence at Nockamixon since l928, has twenty members this year. Under the direc- tion of Clarence Willits, the new English and Latin instructor, the club has endeavored to present to the school a newspaper show- ing the fashions, opinion, and gossip of Nockamixon High, and to encourage the liter- ary ability of some of our students. Shop Club The Shop Club, under the direction of Nlr. Clark, is a group of boys from Grades 7, 8, and 9. These boys are interested in gaining experience and making small projects, using both hand and power tools. lt is their aim to provide better tools and facilities for in- dustrial arts. Red Cross Club The Red Cross Club chose the making of stuffed toys for children in hospitals as their project this year. A box of toys was com- pleted for Christmas. We hope next year to interest more people in this worth-while work. Forty-one Forty-two Future Farmers of America The Future Farmers of America, a na- tional organization of affiliated State organi- zations, is composed of local chapters in schools having instruction in vocational agri- culture. Any student of vocational agricul- ture is entitled to active membership upon receiving a majority vote of the members present at any chapter meeting. Membership may be continued for three years following completion of the regular course of voca- tional agriculture. Ari: Club The Art Club is a newly organized club this year. Its members are chiefly from the junior High group. although membership is not restricted to that group. Among the many projects carried out, there have been the painting and decorating of trays and boxes, also the decorating of towels and scarves. Glee Club Each club period a group of girls from eighth to twelfth grades gather together to be lifted on wings of song. Their first ap- pearance was at the Christmas partyg then they were busy preparing their operetta for the assembly programs, both here and at Springfield. Everyone enjoys the compan- ionship offered through this singing experi- ence. IW , awk-GN!! 'Y A - i t, .-a+sss,a-' C, 0pereH:a Friday, December 19, 1947. Yes, that was the night of the P. T. A. Christmas Party, but the children in the grades had a circle around that date for another reason. That was the night they were going to participate in their operetta, She Didn't Believe . We were taken to sunny Florida, where we found Dorothy. who didn't believe in Christmas, but after she found no one would bother with her because she did not have the Christmas spirit, Dorothy saw her big mistake. Who can forget the gaily costumed gifts, poinsettias, mistletoe and holly, the puffing train, the jumping jacks and those two imps ? Everyone had such an enjoyable time performing, and the audience enjoyed the performance. The entire production was under the direction of Miss Geraldine Pellettieri with the assistance of Miss Foellner and Mr. Clark in charge of scenery, and Miss Lois Le Worthy in charge of costumes. The grade teachers gave invaluable assistance behind the scenes . Forty-three Girls' Softball Team Look ng into the future, we see the girls' softball team as practically all veterans. They should have a good season for most of the girls have had two years of experience. Although the girls played very hard, the odds seemed to be against them tne last few years. However, they will prove to be stiff competition this year for these girls are going to be right on the ball. The schedule for 1948 is as follows: APRlL Monday IZ.. ........
