Cowboy Joe assured the teachers his training ability could be applied to any student. Ventriloquist Mel Bateman and his puppets came in November. Their show was very funny, and quite enjoyable for both the Grade School and High School. On the morning of March 9th Forrest Hobbs and his ' 'Wild West Spectac- ular' ' showed die Bridger students many rope tricks and displayed his ability as a bull whip artist. Bob and Mayana Markworth demonstrat- ed their archery skills on May 8th. Their act was truly amazing and many incredible feats of archery was shown. May 11th, a group from North Community College in Powell came to sing for us. The group called the Northwest Singers and contained stu- dents from Roberts and Joliet as featured artists. They were really super, and well received by all. l S gKi a i C5 l) S S S 5 S 5 5 5 5 5 5 S 5 |g 5 Being new to the Bridger High staff and music department has been an interesting and dedicating experience. I had experienced many rewarding moments in my previous locations and had wondered if there would be any musical experiences in the year to come. As 1 now look back on the whole year, 1 know that some things certainly have happened. There were the many games the pep band attended with a hope that their team would win, the early (I repeat early) morning swing choir rehearsals with a hint of 50's, the district and divisional tournaments with the band very noticably playing their best for BHS, the honor band tour and all their preparation. At the district festival in Billings on April 7th, just after 9:00 a.m., the BHS Band did it again and earned a superior rating from their performance of 1 'Album Leaf'' and 1 'Joi . The neatest thing about the year was all those music students who put their whole heart into music. They experienced and enjoyed music with all its moments, hard work and dedication, no matter what circumstances or obstacles there were to overcome. Music and life, for that matter, to be fully experienced, involves not to hesitate or complain but to go for it. Mr. Ed Fisher CHORUS Right: Back Row: L-R T. Blood, D. Peters, L. Brasen. Although the ' 'Jitter Bug'' and some Close dances were popular, everyone joined in when the teachers led the ' 'Bunny Hop''. Snowball Royality. The big moment was at midnight when the Snowball King and Queen were announced. The lucky couple was Steve Ryan and Stephanie Nagel, the senior candidates. For those who weren't in the dancing mood, Ski movies were shown for added entertainment. All in all the dance was a great success. Eclipse 1979 W February 26, 1979 At 6:00 a.m. the Science and Math students of Bridger High went to Lavina, Montana to view the total eclipse of the sun They took their developed film, 13 welding glass, and several other ' 'eclipse watching'' devices. Students still attending school during the eclipse, also watched from classrooms and the front lawn, since Bndger received 99°' - totality. The show wasn't totally in the sky, however, as shadow bands crossed the ground followed by an immense shadow moving at great speed. The sky grew dark, resembling dusk, the air became considerably colder, the wind grew calm, and an eerie uneasiness set in. Animals, birds, and people could feel it and all became incredibly still. Around the moon could be seen a light blue corona along with pink and orange spots of light called prominences. The summer triangle consisting of the stars Vega, Altair, and Deneb could be seen along with some of the planets. Then a big flash of light appeared, called the 1 'diamond ring effect,'' and totality was over, the whole thing lasting a little over two minutes. All who witnessed the eclipse thought it the greatest thing they'd ever experienced. If you missed it, we're sorry, as there won't be another one of this magnitude in Montana for 360 years! ! Bridger 4th Annual Fine Arts Fair was held on April 12. Lora Young, Jayne Stovall and Patti Taylor were chosen to go to the Montana Art Interscholastics in Great Falls to display their talents and attend workshops. Jayne and Lora check out the displays r5 Drama Recital The stage is set, the place is quiet. Dr. Aadland (5) welcomes everyone and explains how it all began and how the class came up with the final finale. The curtain opens with Dupont (Kristen Hoff) and Durand (Bonnie Jackson) walking in circles. They are doing a theatre of absurd by Ionexco called Foursome. Soon Martin (Kevin Fox) enters and then the Pretty Lady (Call Ciesick), (4). The stage changes and a highlight of the show (3), starring Scott Wilm as a little boy and Steve Ausen, an old lady, in ' 'The Library'.1' The stage is cleared and Janet Hergcnrider (1) does a puppet pantomime. Followed by Death of the Hired Man. starring Tammy DeRudder and Alan Hayden. Patt Foltz (2) doing a dramatic reading on Edgar Allen Poe's, The Tell-Tale Heart. Next, a scene from ' 'Orpheus Descending, starring Ernie Copenhaver (7) and Stephanie Nagel. Tony Blood and Denis Koch do a scene from the The Seventh Seal. Then Karen Shehein and Steve (6) do a scene from The Sleeping Prince.'' Then the smashing finale, The Boor, starring Boyd Vopel as Gregory Stephanivick Smirnov, Coleene Brookshier as Yelena lvanovina Popova, and Luka (Larry Brasen), sent the audience home with a good feeling. The Drama class presented one of the most successful recitals so far, complete with two one - act plays, a dramatized poem, a dramatic reading, two pantomimes, and several dramatic duos. Every member of the class appeared on stage, and all performed other necessary' tasks such as lighting and make-up. Every Junior and Senior who plans to attend M.S.U. would benefit greatly from High School Week. It is too bad that more students cannot attend, because it really gives you a feel for the college. I got to know the campus and found that 1 really like the atmosphere and the programs offered. In addition, I gained a scholarship by my score on the test we took the second day there. Doug Parker High School Week was fun, besides the four hour test, but I feel that it helped me to know the campus and the people there. I enjoyed it alot. Dan Laber High school Week was a really great experience. It was a time to meet new friends, talk to the college kids and teachers and get a feel of the campus. Most skeptics thought this year's squad to be part of a 1 'rebuilding'' year. It didn't turn out that way. We repeated as conference champions, placed second in the district tournament, advanced to the divisional tournament, and ended the season with a 20-6 won-loss record. The leadership was outstanding, spirit high, and our winning tradition keeps moving. The enthusiasm of this team infected our entire basketball program which will pay dividends in the years to come. Boys track aM««i«imMnillli:iiiniiiiiiiiiuinmninnmaigTT The boy's track team had an excellent season. We had eight boys, out of the twelve on the team, place at the District Track Meet. Mark Thiel led the team in scoring with 16 1 4 points at District and placed in all of his 5 events. He set a new school record in the Pole Vault and ran the ankor leg on our record setting 440 relay team. The four boys who went to the State Track Meet were Mark Thiel, Bryan Ridenour, Don Peters, and Shawn Kapor. The four Juniors will all return next year, which should provide excellent leadership for the team. Coach Fishbaugh 1. Steve's fabulous form. 2. BackL-R: B. Ridenour, D. Kapor, S. Wilm, L. Julie should, by now, 1 would guess, have seven kids and one on the way. I, Ernie Copcnhavcr, see Sill Dell in the future doing what he did best, nothing. He will be driving his Camaro, and working only when he has to. Later in life he may become a wealthy tycoon; slightly wealthy. Ten years from now 1 see Leah Boyd owning her own Cirl Scout cookie factory and entertaining crowds with her spectacular driving in the demolition derby. In ten years 1 see Connie as the owner and head librarian of a new but small library. Always yelling sit down and shut up. But never the loss; her five word vocabulary sometimes tend to get bigger by yelling at a person and asking if they want to get kicked out for two weeks. That's what I call real dedication. Ten years from now we sec Wendy owning her own ICA stores. She's taken business and management courses and become very successful. She is now Vice- president of the ICA chain. Out of desperation and failure; Jon, Craig and Doug have now gone to her for a job. As a pastime she helps Stace run their swingin' singles bar, which too has become very popular. In ten years Jim Hoskins will be sitting on his tractor with a full can of chew wondering where his bull is going next. This is also a good way not to hear from his neighbor down the road about the whereabouts of his bull Ten years from now, we see Scott Crawford in the Office Bar, sitting in the comer, still telling the same old jokes, but now there is a change, he has two stacks of money sitting on each side of him. He says he got it playing before millions of people. The next day we see Scott at work, but its not quite what we expect. He is on a Billings street comer with his old, wooden guitar, dark glasses, and sign over a cup that reads, Blind . Well, we must admit, Scott sure is playing before millions of people. Fifteen years from now 1 see Scott Willy Wilm as Head Player Coach of the L.A. Lakers; bringing his team to the national championship. He is surrounded by beautiful women and sitting by his very own gold plated spitoon. In ten years I sec Cloris Loyning as one of the top comediennes in this country and in her spare time she and her husband Don travel with the circus entertaining the people by putting their fists in their mouths. Cory Michaud, I see you in the future as a rich John Eclucco 11. Good Luck! ! Ten years from now, we see Stasi driving a grand new red VW, with a muffler that works, to her very own Gerrell's Store. At night she keeps herself busy by helping Wendy run their swingin' singles bar. In ten years we sec Scott Laber still working on his pickup over in the Vo-Ag shop. Actually, he's still waiting for his parts from NAPA. I, Karen Shehein, see Steve Ryan, after a successful career in the Navy and an unsuccessful attempt at restoration of the S.S. Poseidon , as the handsome, dashing and wealthy captain of the Love Boat''. We sec Mary Ann, 10 years from now, as she travels around the world to different spas, trying to find a way to make her taller, and regretting that she didn't get braces afterall. Would you believe, LaCele Bangert is still traveling with her herd of champion shorthorn cattle to all the fairs and shows around the country. The once new pickup she got in her high school days has aged rapidly with all those wild miles she has put on it. In the future we see Boyd Vopel performing ballet at the Box Theater, while dodging- the spoiled fruit. In the fall you will find him acting as water boy for the San Diego Padres. All this hard work goes to support a ''Wilmy'' family of two, a wife G a dog. Well, in ten years, 1 can't say for sure, how, where, or what Stave A. will be doing. But I don't think 1 will see him cheerleading in his grass skirt with those awful hairy legs of his showing. I doubt, that my Mom and Dad will find him in that certain place with a girl he probably shouldn't have been with. But on a serious note, 1 figure Steve will go far, if his old '56 hot rod, Chevy doesn't give out on him. In ten years we sec Steve Ausen with a dirty face and calloused hands shoveling manure down at ' 'Doc Randell's and wrestling those animals around as if he knows what he is doing. (It's about time.) Keep up the good work, Steve, those animals have never been happier. That hard work of shoveling manure has also helped to keep those grea legs of yours in shape. You never know when you might be caught unexpectantly in a grass skirt. We now sec Bonnie Jackson in her BYU T-shirt; training for the marathon in the 1988 Olympics. After running thirty miles a day, she spends her free time picking up attendance slips at Bridger High. And leading warm ups at track practice. In ten years we see Lynn Halverson is still in Bridger. Lynn has become a very successful janitor at the local ICA store. Twice a week we see the brown Buick out front ad Lynn inside talking to his mop about the day. He is going out of town to pick up some good looking women and show them off. Don't give up; someone is bound to feel sorry for you one of these days. Ten years from now you will see Alan Hayden still working at Aldrichs' trying to scrape up enough money to build a hot rod. Ten years from today, we see Stephanie Nagel receiving a pardon from the governor of Montan, excusing her from the crime she has spent 3 years in prison for. It seems he finally believes her story that she was not driving the getaway car at the bank robbery, but was merely sitting in the driver's seat at the time of her arrest. Steph will have no trouble finding employment, even with her prison record. Knowing her fondness for good ole booze, several liquor companies will offer her a year's supply of her favorite brand to do full-page magazine ads for them. Steph's major accomplishment in the next ten years will be her discovery of a cure for the common hangover. However, she will find it has already been patented by a fellow classmate. Patti Taylor, in ten years, will be singing with a group such as ABBA'' as one of the lead singers but will keep in shape by running cross country in her spare time. She will eventually marry a Baptist minister. In ten years or less Brend Buckmiller will marry a wealthy rancher and raise thoroughbred horses for racing. She will be the proud owner of the best little blask hot rod in the county. § esso Bacca au teatc and Commencement Leah talks to Mr. Bruce Zinne.
