Bndgeport H1gh School We apprecxate the fme school plant that has been provlded for us Each year new lmprovements are added to keep lt up to date so that our students w1ll have the best educat1onal opportun1t1es Dr C M LEWIS one of the flrst board members who 1S now 88 years old tells th1s lnterestmg hlstory of our bulldlngs In the year 1908 an elect1on vsas held to vote bonds to bu11d a h1gh school 1n Brldgeport A board of educatlon was elected and they purchased a Slte for the school that had one house upon lt whlch could be used for a one room school It was equlpped w1th school furmture and a teacher was hlred for the begmmng of Brldgeport Townsh1p Hlgh School There were about forty puplls for that f1rst term m 19081909 Then school bulldlngs and a pr1nc1pal and three teachers were employed About 75 puplls attended the term of 19091910 and there was one graduate The attendance grew from year to year and 1n 1917 the north half of the present bulldlng was erected Ten years later 1n 1927 the gym naslum was bullt All bond 1ssues for the bu1ld1ngs were promptly pald w1th1n the allotted t1me Improvements are contlnually belng made 1n the or1g1nal bulldlngs to enable them to serve better the changmg needs of the student body Also 1n 1952 an agrlculture bu1ldmg was placed back of the gymnaslum Our hlgh school d1str1ct has expanded 1n recent years unt1l lt now contalns 1161!2 square mlles, l1'1ClUdlI'1g some terrltory ln Crawford County We are proud of our past and look w1th conf1dence to our future contracts were let for the building of the south half of the present

THE ADMINISTRATION PRINCIPAL For the last eleven years Bridgeport High School has been guided by the administrative policies of Mr P E Crowder our principal Our parents respect him because he has kept our school on a sound financial basis and has shown wisdom in the management of the school in general The students appreciate his firm and fair way of dealing with school problems Mr Crowder has a Bachelor of Education degree from Ill1no1s State Normal University and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Ill1no1s He also has two units of post graduate work m school law and has the reputation of having a wide knowledge BOARD OF EDUCATION It is almost axiomatic that a school is never any better than its Board of Education We are fortunate that we have a broad minded progressive Board that hold uppermost ID their minds the general welfare of the students May we here pay tribute to these public spirited citlzens who so generously give of their time 1n behalf of our school Left to right Purl E Crowder fprincipalj Clifford C Gray Elvin O Legg Harry R Loos F R Irwm fsecretaryj W E Tracy fpresidenth Dayton G Middagh, Raymond Couch of that subject and general administrative principles.
