SENIOR CLASS ELECTIO For the past seven years it has been the custom at Bridgeport High School for the senior class to hold an election of class oflicers similar to that used in electing our regular officials. The last few years the Student Council has been in charge of these elections. They provide an elec- tion board, which presides at the polls. and regu- lar voting booths. To run in the primaries a senior must have a petition, signed by twenty-five other seniors. turned in to the election board. His name is then automatically placed on the primary ballot. As many may run for an oliice as want to. In the primaries two slates of candidates are chosen to run in the final elections. There are two par- ties, the Sunny and the Hill parties. This year there was great excitement as usual when the announcement was made that petitions for senior class officers would be ac- cepted by the Student Council. All the seniors were running around signing or getting signed petitions. After all the petitions were in, the ballot for the primary election was as follows: SUNNY PARTY President .. ,..,.. .,.. l Robert Conaway, john Kapusta Vice President . . . . Fred Havlitek, Katharine Hill, Ronald Redman Secretary .. . .. .Clara Brubach, Raymond Cook Treasurer ,... .. .,.. Donald Munn, Tillie Givens HILL PARTY President ..... ..,.,. .... D ennis Crolley, john Connor Vice President ....,., . .Robert Tracy, Vincent Carpenter, Patty Sue Floyd Secretary ....... Carol Fehr, Marilyn Ehni, Dorothy Dalto Treasurer .... Mildred Krob, Rose Figura, Clarima Shrader Vice President-Fred Havlicek Treasurer-Mildred Krob, President-Dennis Crollu Secretary--Rayrnond Cook. Everyone awaited the outcome of the voting eagerly. That afternoon these results were an- nounced. SUNNY PARTY HILL PARTY President . . ,RobertConaway Dennis Crolley Fred Ilavlieek Carol Fehr Mildred Krob Vice President . Robert Tracy Secretary . , ...Raymond Cook Treasurer , , . ,, Donald Munn These were the students we had chosen to run for our officers in the final election. Now the real campaigning started. Signs could be seen everywhere in the halls. Our ar- tistic ability really showed up. Another method of campaigning was the stamping of the napkins in the cafeteria with Vote for Hill or Vote Sunnvf' Everyone was telling everybody else the good points of his or her candidate. On the day before the final vote, a rally was held with speeches by the candidates and their campaign managers telling us their qualities for being elected to office. The next day was it, and everyone held their breath until the following announcement was made. Here are the results of the Senior elec- tionsf, President-Dennis Crolley Vice President-Fred Havlicek Secretary-Raymond Cook Treasurer-Mildred Krob This was certainly a great experience for us and we are sure we will know a little more about voting in a regular election when we gain that honor.
