SAMPSON, Superintendent My Dear Friends: Another year has gone, and each year I have the privilege of saying a farewell word to those who go away from the Bridgeport High School with a diploma duly signed-given in evidence of achievement. Only yesterday we stood where you stand and walked where you walk. Behind were the years of mingled joy and heartaches: ahead was the open road obscured only by a rainbow of promise. If you fail to add something to the world in which you live, you will be a disappointment to all of us, and will be considered an unworthy product of our high school. Regardless of where you live or regardless of your vocation, be content with nothing less than a complete life each day. If you do not lead a complete life each day, how can you help those who are less fortunate than yourselves. We are interested in you always. Your friend, H. H. SAMPSON. Page 8 xg! To them goes the honor of creating an inspired and lighting sideline Yea, Maroon, Yea, White, Yea, Bullies, FIGHT! FIGHT! Page 24 E 1. GIRLS' GLEE CLUB The Girls' Ctlee Club has been one of the foremost clubs of the school. They have given several concerts. and in March went to Denton to compete in the C. l. A. Music Contest. The success of the Club is due to their Director, Miss Jennie Belle Renshaw, and accompanist, Mrs. Will Renshaw. who have worked diligently with them and proved themselves valuable at all times. The Cilee Club girls have made splendid progressconsidering their experience in Glee Club work. Their songs have been of the classical nature and they deserve special mention for their excellent interpretation of difhcult numbers which were included in their repertoire. They are to be congratulated for the splendid work they have done and we hope that they will continue their education towards an increasing love and knowledge of good music. which is a vital element in the education of the people. THE FOOTBALL CLUB During the season of '27 the Bridgeport eleven again showed the people what they could do. They had a powerful and willing team: though somewhat inexperienced, showed itself far superior to every other team in the county. They suffered some defeat. The Bullies did not try to pile up overwhelming scores on their opponents. They had a powerful line and a fast backneld, but the practice of Bridgeport teams has been to play steady and consistent football, and this has always proved suflicient in the past. They entered the semi-finals of the district. Muchhof this was due to our coach, Mr. Jenkins, who is a tireless, eflicient worker, and his efforts have assured him a warm place in the heart of every loyal student of B. H. S. We believe that we have the best coach of any city in the country. He is not only a coach, but he is a friend. Always he is ready to lend you a helping hand when you are in need. Mr. Carson, as assistant coach, has displayed decided ability, proving himself very efficient and capable. Page 31, Page Buck Row: Coach Carson. Rish, Johnson. Elder. Captain Mann. Hawkins 1928 Basket Ball Club The l9Z8 basket ball season ended fairly successful, considering the fact that the team had only a few lettermen back from last year's squad. With few exceptions. all this year's team will be back next season, and with this year's training and experience, Bridgeport should have a record-breaking team next winter. Although Bridgeport lost the majority of her games. she displayed throughout the season the same iight and valor that she shows in her other branches of athletics. GAMES Bridgeport Chico ,,,,,.. Coach Jenkins made an excellent pitching staff from all new material, with the exception of a few. The Bullies have had some hard luck and they opened the season on the wrong foot. They dropped the first game to D. B. C. by the score of ll to 1. The next game, played in Decatur with D. B. C., was lost by the score of 7 to 3. In the next game Bridgeport defeated Chico by the score of 7 to 6. Then came the next defeat, at the hands of Polytechnic, with th score of 4 to 9 and 12 to 13. The Bullies are not in the least discouraged. They are noted for their ability to come from behind and win over handicaps and we are all confident that they are going to come out on top. We wish to say that we have labored by hook and by crook fand mostly crookl until we have succeeded in getting this first edition of the annual out. You have probably been impressed by the many inconsistencies and errors which stand out so glaringly in the book. You can now easily understand why we made you pay for your book in advance before you had ever seen it. Yet it is our handiwork and we deny it not- we did it with our little type- writer -probably not the best we could have done, but the best we did do. If you have enjoyed in the least the perusal of this volume, or if in the future your grandchildren shall ever amuse themselves on a rainy afternoon looking at the funny pictures, we shall feel that the ink at least has not been wasted. This is not an apology but a statement. We do not ask for your opinions, keep them to yourselfg but remember this little parting word: Judge not that ye be not judged, for we have attempted to do unto others as we would have them do unto us.
