LLAQS HISTORY Unperceived the moment for looking back has comc upon us with immeasurable swiftness ls it possible that four years have gone by since we the Class of 5 1 entered the school as wide eyed Freshmen7 What memories will we carry away with us7 Getting acquainted was the mayor under aking of our first year at Central New friends the gym 105 the 8 '45 bell releasing 105 s early occupants and of course, the changeable schedule all came under this vital topic Having ploughed through our first year we were sure we had learned everything there was to be known Minor details could be pick d up anywhere so we thought The subs quent three years proved a major lesson in minor details We then looked forward to our Sophomore year as seasoned veterans Perhaps our Sophomore year will always b known as the calm before the storm I s complacency led faculty and students alike to wonder whether there was a Class of 5 3' All fears were dispelled quickly when with the arrival of school elections in late spring we chose our officers for our Iunior year At the same time we were also informed of the appointment as class adviser of Miss Isabelle Chapootian who was to guide and encourage us for the re mainder of our high school career Cur lunior year had hardly begun when tveryone soon learned that the Class of 5 3 hal arrived' The class decided that the time had come to mee its officers formally and get ac quainted generally with all its members Thi meeting was accomplished by a class assembly held late in November of 1951 Here we met Martin Bressler president Virginia Costanzo vice president Lois Shea secretary Patricia Ilynn treasurer Margaret Flynn and Leonard Chaisson directors of social activities We also learned that we were quite a talented bunch' Cur executive ability was exhibited in our first activity which really came under the head for over two monthes the oflicers and our adviser with the aid and consent of Dr Sides pre sented to the class and the school a completely new design for the com entional school ring Still bursting with new ideas and ready to try them out the C lass of 5 3 undertook it first social function The Rose Festival held April 19 was the gala dance which welcomed spring with a bang' The American Legion I-Iall bedecked with roses housed the enthusiatic crowd To add to all the excitement the school itself was getting its face lifted and reference to pink dedo and robin s egg blue were as common as student teacher and little white call slips There was no room for supeistition with everyone learning to duck under ladders and scaffold and to hop over planks and paint buckets If students and faculty thought they had seen excitement during the past months it was nothing compared to what was about to take rlace' School elections in the spring of 195 ' literally rocked the scho ul on its foundations by an outbreak of political campaigning the lik of which had never before been seen a Central Students running for Senior class offices felt that there was no better place to practice democratic principles than in the school and thus the political party was instituted at Central Phra es such as If I am elected and I promise you echoed for weeks through the halls before elec ion day Excitement reached its peak at a hug campaign rally in the school auditorium the day before votes were cast Following the elections a special assemblx was called to announce the returns The vic torious were Dominic Mastrone president Delia Rinaldi vice president Florence Loss secre tary Patsy D1Tul1o treasurer Nancy DeLufa and Albino Rodrigues directors of social activities They were to be our leaders for our senior year our last year at Central 70 1 k., ' 5 9 1 :- . 9 5 7 . pt C , g . , . . 8 or .
