CHEER LEADERS Sitting: Harold Mantlell. Standing left to right: Ed Pcluso, Constantine Volaitis. Sam Schlacter, Al Gallueei, Fmnk Mzilyszkn, Ray Lappt-ll. Phil Corso. Victor Riccio, Mario Ruliano. CHEERLEADERS A football game wouldnt be complete without a cheering crowd and some agile and vociferous leaders of the cheering, Central's cheering squad consisted of nine members with Harold Mandell as Captain. The cheerleaders attended all of our foot! ball games and participated in three pep assemblies. The group kept the stands cheering and singing and helped make the football season a successful one. PRE-INDUCTION SWIMMING Every sailor in the Navy must be able to swim, lor if he does not have this ability when he joins he must acquire it. Tlhe Pre' lnduetion swimming course makes sure that Central boys will be able to swim when they enter the service, For the second year this course has been given under the direcf tion of Mr. joseph Burns at the Y.M.'C.A. Seventeen year old senior and junior boys who anticipate entering the service, divided into three groups according to their ability to swim, meet either on Wednesdziy, Thurs' day or Friday mornings. Friday's group was composed ot: Limous Bell, Frank Bender, Stanley Bernaski, Sidf ney Bridgeforth, james Caldwell, joseph Dailey, joseph Dechecco, William Dem' long, Rocco Errichetti, Dominic Ferrusi, 24 Robert Gleason, james Hannon, Albin jocis, James Mackie, Sidney Madwed, Lawrence MicQuade, Manfred Mueller, john Polozf zolo, Russell Ross, john Shamiss, VVilliam Stowe, john Sulinsky, john Sullivan, Robert Thomas, Peter Tranquillo, blames Meenan, Howard Willizinis and Raymond Tuska. These were the experts. Among the most expert were Sidney Bridgeforth and James Mackie. The Thursday group was composed of those with some experience in swimming and the Wedtiesdzty group was made up of the tyros. ln March a new Friday swim' ming class was formed. This was a mixed group as far as skill went, Among the more expert in this last group were john Beardsf worth and Charles Wildmztii. Sidney Bridgeforth assisted in the training of this new group. The boys received the benefit of two fine instructors, Mr. Clayton McGran of the Middle Street Boys' Club and Mr. Forrest Hallet of the Red Cross, who teach them everything from the simplest fundamentals of keeping above water to life saving. We at Central feel that these students will go out to fight for their country better equipped to do their job than they were be' fore they began the Preflnduction swim' ming course.
