Robert Keane. FRENCH CLUB One ofthe most integral sections of a ship is its language division, for how hetter can a sailor catch the tide of the customs and language of foreign ports. Les Marius of the Good Ship Central have responded to the whistle of the hos'n's pipes to round out an educational and inter' esting year. Witli Madame Helen C. Hawes and Miss Marjorie R Bushnell at the helm, the Cluh elected the following otiicers: Irving Stcinhardt, presidentg Riehf ard U'Connell, vicefpresident, Florence Rosenhaum, secretaryg and Jean Whitlciek, treasureri with an advisory activities com' mittee composed of Dorothy Medlicott, ,ludy Cwalina, Vern Bruckenstein, and Ann Stivcrs. Le Cercle Francais then continued an' other year furthering the gohs' knowledge of France, her songs, dances, and history. Cahin 124 was the scene of action and the first meeting got under way with a hang. Two movies were shown La Marine Francaise and La Cuerre dans le Desert , after which a fine program prepared hy the sudents ot' the fourth year was presented, retireslnnents were served and the meet' ing was adjourned. Cuignol, the puppet, 14 was a feature attraction at one of the prof grams. Cuignol was animated hy Florence Rosenhaum, Bernice Cellis. and Alvin Turf etsky. Excerpts from other programs that delighted the gohs are: Le Chant de Toref ador and Au Canada , sung hy Sam Lavitskyg Mr. Irving Perkins played Easter Music hy Rossin, and Valse Fran- caise hy Chacorine: and several amusing skits given hy the talented cluh memhers. Une of the most outstanding activities of this year's work was the collahoration ot' Le Cercle Francais of i'The Good Ship Cen' tml and the other French Cluhs of the city High Schools in sponsoring a talk hy Madame Genevieve Tahouis. author oi' the FreefFrench newspaper Pour La Victoirelf on Fehruary 9, 1944. Shore leave in the merry month of May was hiflited hy a trip to New York where Les Marius visited a French Folk Festival, the French exhihit at the Museum ot' Modern Ari, and lunehed in a colorful French restaurant. Le Cercle Francais is planning for the new year, when it will weigh anchor for anf other cruise with entertainment and enjoy' ment aboard for all. 11
