The All Sporis Banquei. . . was held Saturday, May 11th, in honor of our athletes. Prior to the pres- entation of awards, a barbecue was held in the cafeteria. The President of the Briarfield Boosters Club, Bill Maxwell, served as Master of Cere- monies. Miss Brooks recognized the cheerleaders for their hard work and extra effort shown this year. They were a special part of the athletic program and their real importance was seldom realized. The Booster Club was highly praised for their assistance and support through the year. 64

A new award . . . was given this year and will be given every year from now on. The award is the Penn Sandidge Award in memory of Mr. Penn San- didge for the fine civic work and his contributions to the athletic program here at Briarfield. Mr. Sandidge was the announcer at all the games, and could always be depended upon when asked to help in any way. The qualifications for the recipient of the award are that hefshe be responsible, dependable, a senior, a participant in the athletic program and a good scholastic student. The recipients of the award this year were Mark Phillips and Becky Edwards.
