The Briarcliff Art Curriculum is designed to sensitize the student to the universal language of art through creative participation in and clear understanding of the elements of the visual arts. Industrial arts is that phase of the general education program that deals specifically with a study of industry, its organization, materials, processes, products, and working conditions. The industrial arts department offers courses in general industrial arts, a study of drawing, Woods, metals, electricity, with advanced courses in wood technology, metal technology and electronics. HISTORY DEPARTMENT encourages recognition of past, present and future . . . . It is the role of the History Department to provide the student with an understanding of the com- plexities of our modern way of life, the role of the United States in world affairs, and the import- ance of each citizen's active participation in all phases of community life. Subjects such as history, government, geography, economics, and sociology are interrelated in order to show the student the needs of our world and the role of different cultures in the world society. Through active class participation, research, parallel reading, films, and field trips, the student gains a thorough knowledge of the material in each course.
