HISTORY DEPARTMENT encourages recognition of past, present and future . . . . It is the role of the History Department to provide the student with an understanding of the com- plexities of our modern way of life, the role of the United States in world affairs, and the import- ance of each citizen's active participation in all phases of community life. Subjects such as history, government, geography, economics, and sociology are interrelated in order to show the student the needs of our world and the role of different cultures in the world society. Through active class participation, research, parallel reading, films, and field trips, the student gains a thorough knowledge of the material in each course.
