DEPARTMENT HEAD BARBARA LANDERS B.S., Univ. of Georgia Health and Phys. Ed. Varsity Basketball, BGIA, Pep Club, PHYSICAL EDUCATION program gives individual opportunity for physical fitness . . . Physical education at Briarcliff offers each student an opportunity to par- ticipate in a program that is enjoyable, instructive, constructive and worth- while. The eighth and ninth grade students take a required course that affords them experience in team sports, tumbling and apparatus work, wrestling and other combatitives, rhythms, track and field, and individual sports. An elec- tive program for upper-classmen is offered in which advanced skills in tech- nique and strategy are taught. An effort is being made to give more practice in the lab, thereby giving the students the opportunities to seek answers rather than have answers provided, to verify conclusion and to pursue special personal scientific interests and Curiosities. Scientificly literate citizens are needed to make intelligent decisions related to the welfare of the state and nation.
