WRESTLING AT BRIARCLIFF: 1962-1963 Briarcliff, once again, had a highly successful wrestling team. The 'tRaiders', were undefeated in dual competition, finishing the season with a 10-0 record. They bettered their 1962 performance by taking first place in the DeKalb County Wrestling Tournament, first place in the State preliminaries, and then fought their way to the State Championship. The Raiders7, also received the second place trophy in the Georgia-Alabama meet. Outscoring their opponents 441 to 88 in dual meets, 135 to the second place team,s 88 in the county meet, the varsity team demolished the competition in the State preliminaries and outscored their nearest state opponent 110 to 69. The uBruisers,,' perpetual winners, posted another out- standing record. Their previous spotless record in dual com- petition was marred by Avondale, who manager to squeeze by 28-27. This defeat only acted as an incentive, however, and the determined '4Bruisers7' roared through the DeKalb B-Team Tournament smashing their nearest county competi- tor 134 to 85. Briarcliffis third team, the Mat Burnsf' composed mostly of eighth-graders and first-year wrestlers, were undefeated this year. They compiled a record of 4 wins, no losses. This new supply of wrestling material should keep Briarcliff strong for years to come.
