HOME ECONCDMICS DEPARTMENT The Home Economics Department is always striving to prepare the student for later life. The two Home Economics teachers are Miss Berneice Thompson and Mrs. Helen Downing. The cooking area has two gas stoves, one electric stove, a refrigera- tor, and dining area. There are individual working areas in which the students may work. The cupboards are always filled- with ingredients which the students need to complete their projects. The dining area is used by the teachers at noon to eat their lunches. It has a table with chairs, a china closet, and a buffet. The sewing area has six machines, two of which were purchased this year. During their sewing unit, the girls are assigned individual lockers in which to keep their sewing equipment. There is a showcase in which to hang up their unfinished garments. A fitting stool is .used by the girls while their garments are fitted. A full-length mirror is be- hind 'the stool to help in fitting. The living area has been purchased so the girls will have a home- like atmosphere. They enjoy sitting on the divan when they are doing handwork. ..v '. v -11 f What's cooking, girls? Mrs. Helen Downing looks on as Caroly Kelly, Loretta Ashe, and Ann Mann stir up a cake. These girls enjoy cooking very much. Pretty decorations-The girls in fourth period Home Economics class like to do table settings. These girls like to cook, also. Where's the food, girls? Edith Hodgins, Jeannie Lord, Jean Bragg, Beverly Hanscom, and Rosemarie Gonyer. Are these the pretty decorations? 'e' gm fl Could this be a future June bride? Gladys Parsons models the pretty wedding gown she made for her June wedding. She has made it at school during Home Economics class time. Charlene Sickles and Miss Berneice Thommpson help in pinning the hem. Some dolls have all the luck. Annette Levesque, Terry Bowden, and Sandra Buchanan demonstrate the way to take care of babies by the use of dolls. They learn many new things about child care from their instructor, Mrs. Helen Downing.
