At the time of its inception last year, Clinton jordan, the editor of IVitch Tales, was having much trouble to get out that mimeographed sheet. On account of the many difficulties encountered, Clint', decided we needed a printed paper, and some advertisers. So ClintD, Red Libby, and Jacky Kenney formed a triumvirate Strong enough to convince the principal our advertisers, and subscribers that Brewer High had to have a real paper. There are conflicts in this yearis activity schedules, lack of typists, and machines, yet, t-he staff and subscribers feel that this project is worth while for its record value, for the outlet it offers all students of the school who wish to exhibit their skill in Writing editorials, articles, or poems, and for its exchange value. During the year material was purchased by the C. A. A., and each girl, with the assistance of Miss Bernice Thompson, made a new uniform. This has been a most dependable group to represent the school. They have had nearly perfect attendance at games, and, too, they have shown much school spirit and enthusiasm in cheering the team on to victories. Seldom will one find as superior a group as these six girls who have represented Brewer High School both at home and away. Our basketball team had a fair season, iinishing with tive wins and twelve losses. The record is better than it outwardly shows, for the boys lost seven games by one, two, or three points. The highlights of the season were the Ellsworth-Brewer game at Ellsworth and the Brewer-Bapst game at Brewer. At Ellsworth the Witches pulled one of the seasonis biggest upsets when they handed the tournament-bound Ellsworth Eagles a 39 to 37 defeat. ln the Brewer- Bapst game at Brewer the VVitches led the Crusaders until only one minute was left to playg At this stage of the game Co-Captain Fred Littlefield and Phil Ward left the game via the toul route and Bapst took a winning lead. The leading scorers for the year were Co-Captain Paul Libby, 192 points, Phil Ward, 173 points, and C0-Captain Fred Littlefield, 145 points. GRID HIGHLIGHTS In the first minute of the Brewer-Rockland game, Captain Ernie Moore snatched a Rock- land fumble out of the air and Went thirty yards to collect six points. The try for the point failed, - and Rockland scored a few minutes later to tie it up. They took the lead when their captain, Don McFellar, kicked the extra point that spelled defeat for the Witches. In the Greenville game, Art Wiles, Case Bunker, and Sherm Morrison all scored and led the Witches to a 19 to 13 victory. Brewer found a capable reserve in Babe Quirion, who entered the game to replace Captain Ernie Moore, carried off due to a head injury in the first period. In the third game of the season at Bucksport, the Varsity was hitting on eleven cylinders as they took a four-touchdown lead and let the Brewer Iayvees get in nearly a full period of action. Bob Tardiff played an excellent game as a reserve back. When the game ended, Brewer was on Bucksportis five-yard line and sporting a 25 to 0 lead. Our next foe was the Old Town Indians. At the outset of this game the Brewer fans felt that Brewer was being outclasscd. The team was outclassed for the first half, but when the second half began with Brewer trailing 6 to 0, the Witches caught fire. Bob Tardiff and Johnny Winslow sparked a drive that netted Brewer two touchdowns in eight minutes. This proved too much for Old Town and the game ended with Brewer leading 12 to 6. Incidentally, Brewer played this game without the services of ace backs Sherm Morrison and 'iCase', Bunker, and I Back Row-Coach Alu Pike, Irwin Campbell, Coach Charlie Heddericq.
