Stressing the qualities of leadership, character, and scholastic achievement, the Beta Club symbolized the zenith of outstanding ability. To aspiring stu¬ dents, membership in the Beta Club rep¬ resented the pinnacle of mental cultiva¬ tion and achievement. The recognition and respect accorded to the Betas ex¬ pressed the esteem in which they were held by the student body. The Betas strove to preserve this honor by giving service to their community and school. Meeting once a month, under the cap¬ able leadership of Sam Norwood and the co-sponsors, Mrs. Brittain and Mrs. Set¬ zer, the club suggested extensive proj¬ ects for communicating its goal of com¬ munity service to the public’s attention. A profitable spaghetti supper con¬ tributed funds for the clubs’ treasury. The highlight of the year was the state convention in Raleigh.
