Tom Cabe and Robert Cauble were our representatives to the All-Star Senior Bowl. This team played the All-Stars of Buncombe County in Ashe- ville at the end of the football season. Top scorers this year were: Charles Winchester, Phil Moody, Cecil Lowery, Wayne Babb, Larry Piclclesimer, and Jimmy Rhodes. Two major injuries hampered the Blue Devils to some extentp A promising fullback and a great defensive player fAUburn Teague, broke his leg just after football practice begin. Larr ' Picklesimer broke his arm at the Waynesville game after the team through most of the year. With no quarterback, the team ran from the single wing formation for the last two games. We had a great team and a great season. Again we boast- fully repeat, we're prouder than ever of our Blue Devils. X Hey, man, who's got the ball? Hey, you, get out of my way. BREVARD 34 BLUE RIDGE 7 ln the first period Cecil Lowery scored on a short run. Later Pickelsimer plunged over for another T. D. from the 2-yard stripe. ln the second quarter Win- chester ran 36 yards for a third T. D. During the sec- ond half, Cecil Lowery scored on a fumble by Blue Ridge. Moody scored Brevard's final T. D. Babb converted all extra points. BREVARD 56 REYNOLDS 0 Pickelsimer handed off to Cecil Lowery who scootec 55 yards for the first T. D. Winchester scored the second and third touchdowns. ln the last of the sec- ond quarter, Thomas went over for another T. D. ln the third quarter Cecil Lowery raced 90 yards for a score. Moody plunged over from the T-yard line to score. Babb and Pickelsimer also made T. D's. Babb highlighted the game by kicking 8 straight extra points. BREVARD 21 HENDERSONVILLE 33 This was a hard fought game. Brevard's touchdowns were scored by Jerry Cabe C35 yard runj, Rhodes Q25 yard runi, and Cauble C177 yard runi, each tak- ing advantage of the fumbles made by Henderson- ville. Our team had many bad breaks, one of which was the loss of key man, Cecil Lowery. An unpleasant outcome of the game was Brevard's being placed on probation. Our only comment is Watch out Hender- sonville! Next year Brevard is going to win. BREVARD 6 CANTON 19 ln the opening quarter Cecil Lowery gathered in a punt on the 'IO yard line and raced the entire length of the tield touchdown scored against the Champion Black Bears this season. Brevard gave Canton stiff competition throughout the game. BREVARD T3 ASHEVILLE SCHOOL 0 Cecil Lowery, Pickelsimer, and Winchester spear- headed the Blue Devil's attack. Winchester made the tirst T. D. and the try for the extra point failed. Mid- way ot the second period, Pickelsimer passed 37 yards to Cauble for the second T. D. The try for the extra point foiled. Rhodes ran 45 yards for a T. D., but o holding penalty was called, nullitying the score BREVARD 28 CHRIST SCHOOL T9 Winchester ran 45 yards for the first Blue Devil T. D. Babb kicked that important extra point. In the second quarter Winchester ran 69 yards, but he was stopped at the l-yard line. Cecil Lowery plunged over from the 6th after a 5-yard penalty. Lowery raced 51 yards in the third quarter for a T. D., and in the fourth quarter Tom Cabe ended the scoring by trav- eling 6O yards after intercepting a pass. The Greenies scored once in the second quarter and twice in the last. BREVARD Al BETHEL O Early in the first quarter Rhodes carried the ball 35 yards for the First Blue's T. D. Pickelsimer plunged from the 2-yard line to score again. Moody and Halbert each contributed two touchdowns for the Blues. Babb kicked five extra points making the final score 41 to O. BREVARD 22 WAYNESVILLE 7 We beat Waynesville for the first time in the his- tory of B. H. S. Rhodes received Pickelsimer's pass from our 33-yard line for the first T. D. After Cabe blocked Waynesville's punt, Waynesville recovered in the end zone, giving us a 2-point safety. Another pass by Pickelsimer to Moody gave us our -econd score. Winchester raced 59 yards for the third T. D. Waynesville's only score was in the fourth quarter. BREVARD 7 ENKA O ln the first quarter of the game, Winchester made the only T. D. of the game. Babb racked up the extra point. There were several blocked kicks during the game. ln the last quarter Enka threatened on the 20 yard line only ll for a first down. Farmer was Enka's outstanding player. BREVARD 7 OWEN 21 Thomas faked a punt and ran to our l7 yard line. On the next play Rhodes received a lump pass and lateraled to Cauble on the eights. Cauble ran the remaining distance to go over for Brevardls only T. D. With only thirty seconds remaining, Babb kick- ed the extra point, but regretfully Brevard lost it's last game. There was a pile-up in the line at Asheville School. Mud and blood brought Us victory at Waynesville. These are the familiar words heard from the bas- kefball court during practice. The boys practice every day for two and a half hours after the girls' and the J.V.'s practice. They have to supply their own transportation to the games. Every year they travel to two tournaments, one the Blue Ridge Conference, which is usually played at Enka, and the Western Carolina AA Conference usually held at the newest gym in Western North Carolina. The success ot the boy's basketball team is attributed to the perseverance and skill of Coach McLeod. We remember the hours of hard, yet satisfying work that lies behind the scenes ofthe pictures and the words of this copy. Fondly we remember our co-editors, their heads of the photography staff, especially the editor, breathless and in a rush to get the rest of those club pictures taken, flashes into our mind. Other pictures follow this quick succession. The excitement felt at our first glimpse of the art staff's work, the experiences of the advertising staff as they outdid themselves selling ads and at the end of the year turned bill collectors, the hours the literary staff spent picking their brains for suitable lay-outs and song phrases for the superlatives and writing club and class copy, the time the circulation staff had getting all the students to remember their annual payments. Then there was that good feeling when the last dead-line was met and the annual was in the mail.
