These present varied and interesting programs for the enjoyment, training, and development of the stu- dents participating in them. Besides furnishing training, they promote leadership in scholastic, athletic and journalistic activities and furnish a distinct contribution to the morale of our school. The Ecusta Band was organized two years ago through the support and sponsorship of the Ecusta Paper Corporation. Special aptitude tests were given and many high school students joined the band. The band played at our first football game of the season. ln November they presented a con- cert at assembly. Mr. john Eversman, Mr. Harold Casterton, and Mr. Charles Class are the band directors. A local chapter of the National Beta Club, a service leadership organization, was established October 21, 1946. At a special assembly prograrr in December, thirty-two honor students were pre- sented pins and membership certificates. Ollicers were installed at the same time. Mrs. Sarah Keels Tilson is sponsor for this organization. The 4H Club under the presidency of Howard Wolfe has made considerable progress this year. Each of the thirty members has chosen a special project and is working upon it. Miss Mary Mar- garet Robinson, County Demonstration Agent, and Mr. Paul Cibson, Assistant County Agriculture Agent, are in charge of the 4H program. The Future Farmers of America has a large and enthusiastic membership of sixty-five members. The club arranges an outstanding event during each of the spring months. Included in its sched- ule are a Seed judging Contest, Shop Exhibit, Field Day, Basketball Tournament, Public Speak ing Contest, and a Livestock judging Contest. Mr. C. L. Simmons is the agriculture supervisor. The Student Council, our student government organization, has an important part in our school life. The Student Council was organized in 19-12 and since then has participated in many drives and other school projects. Sponsoring bond, scrap, and paper drives, it played an outstanding role in Brevard High Schools war effort. The main pur- pose of the Student Council is to help formulate and enforce student and faculty regulations for the government of the student body. Mrs. Cora Neil Turner is faculty advisor. The Broadcaster, our school newspaper, is pub- lished once a month. Full of varied information, the paper keeps all students informed about school activities. Its staff is composed of twenty students, and Mrs. B. T. Kimzey serves as faculty advisor. The junior-Senior Players is a dramatics group composed of twenty-live students, with Mrs. B. T. Kimzey as faculty advisor. Membership of the club is limited to those who have performed in the junior or Senior play. During 1947 the two public performances were Here Comes Charlie , and Hows Your Health? , both three-act comedies. Each year the proceeds of the junior play are used to finance the junior-Senior banquet. All school expenses attendent to graduation are paid for out of the Senior play. A large and enthusiastic au- dience always attends each production of the junior-Senior players. The Monogram Club is composed of the stu! dents of the Brevard High School football team making letters in football. The purpose of this club is the promotion of better athletics at Brevard High School. The club's project this year is raising money to buy sweaters for the letter-men of next years football team. Officers of the Monogram Club are Bill Barton, Presidentg Bob Batchford, Vice-President: Perry Hamlin, Secretary-Treasurer1 and Richard Parris, Business Manager. The high school yearbook, The BVL'l'l7Vt'fll3l', is a comparatively new publication, the lirst issue hav- ing appeared in 19-l-1. To jimmy Newbury, a member of the class of '44, goes the credit for naming the annual. Stalf members are appointed by the faculty advisor and principal on the basis of their ability, cooperation. and originality. Mrs. Cora Neil Turner was, and still is, the faculty advisor for the publication. The first Brelianlier had -1-1 pages. ln 1945 the second edition apf peared, boasting 16 more pages than its predecessor. Since there was no Senior class in 19-15--16, the Brevmxlier was not published. This, the third, with 76 pages, is the largest and best Ove hopefl vet. 1 I fmt Will and Tmtament We, the Seniors of the class of 1947, being of sane minds and sound bodies, departing from dear old B.
