Friend, Administrator — College Dean Dean of the College, Dr. Morris Wray, supervises many areas of college life with an emphasis on the curriculum. Dean Wray is involved in selecting new faculty and also counsels students with various problems, academic and otherwise. Because Dean Wray ' s job includes organizing and initiating action, he is often described as the campus catalyst. 18 Administration Top: Dean Wray spends much of his time performing required paperwork. This year ' s enrollment of 700 students is the largest in Brevard ' s history. Our president, Dr. Jacob Martinson, is pleased and says he hopes that capacity enrollment is a trend. With the student body increasing from year to year, Brevard has the potential to grow, but should never strive to become a multicomplex university. A master plan of the campus has been drawn up and there is talk of refurbishing the auditorium starting in May. Is there really a need for a large school in this area? Dr. Martinson believes that as long as there is a demand for this kind of college, Brevard will remain a small, two-year learning center. Dr. Martinson is naturally concerned that Brevard students receive the best education possible. Any student can develop a mind, but Dr. Martinson feels a well-rounded education is a necessity. What goes on outside the classroom is important too, he states. He would like to see every student have big goals and realize his full potential. Dr. Martinson feels Brevard can continue to turn out real leaders in the years ahead. He would like for Brevard to be the best two-year center of education in the country. At present, we are not far from this goal. Dr. Martinson and his family are important to the Brevard College community. Their love and concern for the campus are shown through the time and effort they spend improving the quality of BC life. Planting flowers is only one example of their interest in all facets of Brevard College. The close relationship found in the Martinson family provides an example for students and faculty alike. Dr. Martinson exemplifies the kind of personal leadership that a small college must have to maintain its standards and progress. Administration 17
