?r In this, the twenty-second edition of the PERTELOTE, we, the 1956 staff, have made an effort to bring to you the history of our yearbook. We have attempted to por- tray the relationship between the campus life and the ideas presented in the Nonne Preestes Tale. Chaucer ' s tale provided a source from which the name of our annual was derived. Pertelote was the wise hen most admired by the gallant Chanticleer. In order to suggest our relationship to Duke University, whose annual is entitled Chanticleer, the 1935 staff chose Pertelote as the name of the first edition of a yearbook at Brevard College. Looking still further in the Nonne Preestes Tale, we emphasized the idea that dremes ben significa- ciouns. From the time Brevard College came into existerce it has endeavored to instill in each student the Christian ideals and principles of sound scholarship. Its future depends upon the courage, intelligence, and sacrifice of those who are now seeking to make these dreams come true. May we, the students of 1956, be determined enough to make the next twenty-two years for Brevard College as fruitful as those since the first edition of our Pertelote. IHBtf

In grateful acknowledgment of the innumerable services rendered to our college, we take pride in dedicating our 1956 edition of the PERTELOTE to the Town of Brevard. We realize our eventful years at Brevard College would not have been as pleasant had it not been for the unlimited support of our many activities by the Greater Brevard community. It is with deep appreciation that we dedicate this annual to Brevard. North Carolina.
