It seems incredible that they have passed so soon. They have, none the less, been years crammed to the brim with many good things. Friendships have been cemented, new avenues of learning have been opened up, broad vistas of service to a troubled world have emerged upon the horizon of the future. For these things and for many more I hope you will always have a tender spot in your heart for the Alma Mater. The future has been unpredictable for every generation, including yours. The Keys of success, however, have always been the same. They are knowl- edge and wisdom, courage and perseverance, loyalty and integrity. May you carry these Keys at all times. The Late King of Briton. George VI, several years ago quoted these lines in a New Year ' s Message to his people: And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the New Year. ' Give me a light that I may tread safel 1 - into the unknown. ' He replied. ' Go out into the darkness and put your h.ind into God ' s hand, and that shall be to you better than a light and safer than a known way. ' May you have learned this lesson well during your stay at Brevard Col- lege, so that as you leave us each one of you may start down the corridor of the years with your hand in the strong and tender hand of God. Always your friend, J. J. Stevenson, Jr. ?v ' ' ' Wtmito ■■ ' ?-. ' ?■. ' d ' lv-- ••■■ f? rMmM ' imwMmmx ■■ ■■HH HBII MrWif WRaW t WP i FACULTY Dr Albert L. Bramlett. A.B.. M A , PhD-. Coach Ernest Epply from Duke Uni- versity trained the cagers for participation in the Western Carolina Junior College Conference. Only three returning lettermen made up the nucleus for this year ' s team. Handicapped as the team was. it scored a record which surpassed that of last season. The experience that the freshmen hoopers gained should aid them in their struggle for prominence next season. Because intercollegiate football was suspended, the basketball season ex- tended from November 28 to February 28. The schedule for this year included nine home games and ten games away, covering three states. One of the outstanding events of the season was a trip to Durham when the cagers played Duke University Junior Varsity. Ending the season was a three day conference tournament in Spindale, North Carolina. The members of the squad were Joe Hipp, Larry Poteat. Alec Houston, Melvin Mcintosh, Joe Laughter. Doug Curtis, Stan Hardin. Bill Eller. Bobo McMakin, Robert Walton, and Mickey Monteith. ■1 ' - _ . _. 3g£ l?j ' r£« ' mtm v vnvv «, uii Km wwiJ? New students provided the spark for a winning team and the Legionettes had a successful season. Games were scheduled with college teams in the Western Carolina Junior College Conference. The high light of the year came when unbeaten Spartanburg Junior College was smeared by the Legionettes 49 to 38. High competition is not stressed with the girls team, and much fun was had by the members of the team as they met new and interesting people at the other schools. The high scorers for the year were Blanche McPhail with 238 points and Betty Lineberry with 132 points. The team mascot was little Miss Becky Roy. daughter of Rev. and Mrs. C. Edward Roy. With our eighteen months old mascot always attending our home games, the team was inspired to play a better brand of basketball.
