Dilly thinks she ' s going to be a home economics instructor, but she ' ll prob- ably find herself teaching kiddies with a certain young man. Lawrence Allan Whitaker Swannanoa, North Carolina Delphian; Football. If Allan had not been one of Brevard ' s football stars, people might have thought he lived at Virginia Lodge. Dovie Elma White Rosman, North Carolina Choir; Folk-Dance Club, President ' 41, Secretary ' 40; Medical Science Club; Sigma Pi Alpha ' 40. Dovie, our only aviatrix, is leaning toward the nursing profession. Wouldn ' t it be a waste if her sweet personality and lovely smile didn ' t go toward healing someone? Janey Evelyn Whiteside Uree, North Carolina Euterpean; Fireside Club. Evelyn ' s interests Hi cooking and commercial work. Cyrus Edward Whitfield Hurdle Mills, North Carolina Track. Cyrus was a good worker wherever you found him — in the kitchen or in the chemistry, German, or physics classroom. Frances Bert Wilkerson Brevard, North Carolina Band; Chief Commencement Marshal ' 40; Day Students ' Club; Forensic Club; Medical Science Club, President ' 41; Mu Delta, President ' 41; Sigma Pi Alpha, Secretary ' 41. Although Bert has demonstrated her fitness for a medical career by her brilliant work in the classroom, the physics group will most vividly remember her chewing gum. Ruth Pauline Wilson Bald Creek, North Carolina Euterpean, Vice-President ' 41; Sigma Pi Alpha. Everyone knew Ruth as an excellent sophomore English coach, but few were aware of her keen wit and interest in art.

Many people are first attracted to Betty by her voice. Her radiant personality and gay outlook on life never fail to hold her friends. Gloria Deane Taylor Dallas, North Carolina Boosters ' Club; Mnemosynean; Pertelote Staff ' 40. When Gloria wasn ' t busy typing, she could usually be found in the book store checking up on the male. William Marshall Teague Brevard, North Carolina Baseball; Block B Club; Day Students ' Club; Football. Bud is a likeable fellow because of his unexpected wit. He will be remembered as one of the boys who yanked the lion ' s tail on Turkey Day. Virginia Mae Tessier Franklin, North Carolina Euterpean; Folk-Dance Club; Mu Delta, Vice- President ' 41. State College and a nursing career are competing to see which one will get Virginia. Lewis Townsend Pisgah Forest, North Carolina Although Lewis was a successful contractor, he had the ambition and perseverance to continue his col- lege education. Julia VVomble Travis Apex, North Carolina Christian Workers ' Club, Vice-President ' 40; Euterpean; Future Teachers of America; Sigma Pi Alpha. Julia ' s intellectual achievements and re- ligious interests will help her at Scarritt, but the young minister at High Point College will be more impressed by her ability to cook. Fritz Carl Waldrop Franklin, North Carolina Agriculture Club; Folk-Dance Club. Fritz keeps one eve on the dairv and the other on Libertv (S. C).

Everyone remem- bers Wesleyberta in connection with the book store. Clarence Oliver Wimbish Stoneville, North Carolina Delphian; Future Teachers of America; Pertelote Staff, Editor-in-Chief ' 41. Besides serving as efficient coach for Mrs. Pangle ' s mathematics classes, Oliver has skillfully performed his duties as Pertelote editor. James Marvin Wing Lincoln, Alabama Agriculture Club, Vice-President ' 41; Forensic Club, Vice-President ' 41. Marvin ' s preparation in scientific agriculture has made him one of Brevard ' s finest chemistry coaches. His strong arms have brought forth many a sounding summons from the bell but no stronger sounds than those of his lusty debates. Clara Withers Bessemer City, North Carolina Choir; Euterpean. Clara was outstanding in two ways: she sang in the choir, and she improved the looks of the girls in West Hall through her knowl- edge of beauty culture. Verne Caskie Wood Blue Ridge, Virginia Mnemosynean. This brown-eyed, merry girl is a transfer any college would like to have because of her high scholastic record. Russell Lowell Young, Jr. Glen Alpine, North Carolina Christian Workers ' Club; Cliosophic, Chaplain ' 40, President ' 41; Future Teachers of America; P. K. Club, President ' 41. Although Russell rings the bell at many unpleasant times, he is forgiven when he plays the violin. Thomas Marshall Young Micaville, North Carolina Agriculture Club, Secretary-Treasurer ' 41; Clio- sophic, Secretary-Treasurer ' 41. If Marshall had not been such an efficient mail carrier, there prob- ably would have been many broken hearts and flat purses on the campus. Lillian Bird Zachary Brevard, North Carolina Day Students ' Club, Secretary ' 40; Dramatic Club, Vice-President ' 41; Sigma Pi Alpha; Pertelote Staff ' 40; Student Council ' 41. Lillian intends to be a teacher. Her scholastic achievement and her keen perception of fundamental values are forceful evi- dence of her worth.
