Why, Elizabeth did. She was one of our best cheerleaders. R. C. ' s interests were everywhere, especially in West Hall. If there was a task to be done, R. C. always performed it etticienth . Mildred Jeannette Austin Brevard. Jeannette was an outstanding student, not only in the classroom but in such extra-curricular activities as plays, radio programs, and musical events. E. Pendleton Banks Corinth, Mississippi Day Students ' Club; Dramatic Club; International Relations Club, President ' 41. Pendleton ' s thorough scholarship was supplemented by his dramatic ability. His coaching classes in English Literature were life-savers. Margaret Louise Barnette Cornelius, North Carolina Boosters ' Club; Commercial Club; Mnemosynean. Louise was an excellent commercial student and one of the most conscientious people on the campus. Lee Francis Beattv Sherrill ' s Ford, North Carolina Basketball, Manager ' 41; Cliosophic, Sergeant-at- Arms ' 41; Future Teachers of America, President ' 41. Francis is a good all-round boy. His able assistance helped many a bewildered student in the chemistry laboratory. A. P. Bell, Jr. Rosman, North Carolina Future Teachers of America; International Rela tions Club. It is hard to say which offered A. P. greater problems, his algebra course or analysis of the world situation at meetings of the International Relations Club. ' Toby has a fine voice, which she used often for arguments in sociology. No matter how the European situation turns out, she will be prepared for the future. Hazel s earnest efforts have made for her a place of re- sponsibility and leadership— as president of the Euterpeans, assistant librarian, and member of the College debating team. Secretary-Treasurer ' 40. How doth the little busy Clara find time for all her activities: She excels in her work in the Bursar ' s office, in the classroom, in outside activities, and — well, in everything. • Earle Roberts Brinkley Stem, North Carolina Basketball; Clarion, Sports Editor ' 41. As Mr. Bennett ' s Bible coach, sports editor of the Clarion, and a Carl Sandburg fan Earle showed his ver- satility. • Martha Lillian Bundy Jamestown, North Carolina Fireside Club; Folk-Lore Club; Glee Club; Mnemo- synean. Martha doesn ' t believe in letting studies interfere with her education, but she makes good grades in spite of truth meetings and midnight feasts. Marian Louise Callis Bessemer City, North Carolina Christian Student Movement; Vespers Chairman ' 41; Christian Workers ' Club; Euterpean, Pianist ' 40; Photo-Nature Club, Secretary ' 41; Sigma Pi Alpha. As Mrs. Coltrane ' s English coach Marian was always helping some poor freshman with his nouns and verbs. She plans to be a teacher.
