Everyone knows Johnnie. He takes calisthenics pushing his right foot down and up, and then out comes the Clarion. The very efficient business manager of this publication has hitched his Wagon-(er) to a star. JULIA MARGARET MILLER Lexington, North Carolina Mnemosynean; Boosters ' Club; Davidson County Club; Travel Club. Margaret is one of our most out- standing girls. Her smile and personality are t hings that we shall remember. JAMES CLAUDE MOORE Asheville, North Carolina Cliosophic; International Relations Club. James changes girls every season. We don ' t know whether it ' s the weather or not, but the more they come the better they look. RAYMOND JENNINGS MOORE Mocksville, North Carolina Delphian; Football; Block B Club. Whether it ' s work or play, Raymond puts his whole heart into whatever he is doing. He is never seen at West Hall except at meal time. Every stroke of the big bell will remind us of Robert, the boy on whom time depended. RICHARD NAPIER Rockingham, North Carolina Block B Club; Football; Track. Dick is an ath- lete of great ability but is better known for his sunny disposition. We know that he will win in the race of life. ERNA ELIZABETH NEAL Walnut Cove, North Carolina Mnemosynean; Folklore Club. Aunt Erna will always be a grand person to all who know her. She is one of our most friendly biddies. MARTHA JOSEPHINE NELSON Waynesville, North Carolina Euterpean; Folklore Club. One of our dining hall sunbeams has given us much cheer. Oh yes, she ' s good at hill-billy singing, too. DORIS CLAUDIA MAYHEW Charlotte, North Carolina Mnemosynean, Vice-President ' 38; Clarion Staff; Commercial Club, Secretary ' 38; Dramatic Club; Per- telote Staff; Photo-Nature Club. The yeya of Doris and her popular leadership of the Jugheads do not hide the kind heart she possesses. LUCILLE ANNA MEDFORD Lake Junaluska, North Carolina Mnemosynean; Boosters ' Club; Choir; Folklore Club; Photo-Nature Club. Here ' s a Juliet for Buster, but to us she is Grannie ; and that means that she has the steadiness of age, the buoyancy of youth, and the wit of a court-jester. She plans to be a school marm ; and we wish her success, whether it be in kindergarten or in college. BOYD BLAIR MEIXELL, JR. Brevard, North Carolina Day Students ' Club; Football. (Ljrevan CHARLES FREDERICK NICHOLS Waynesville, North Carolina Cliosophic; Dormitory Council; Medical Science Club. Fred put forth some outstandingly good work on our debating team, and as an orator he surpassed many. MABLE RUTH OSBORNE Denver, North Carolina Mnemosynean. The little biddie with a smile for everyone and a date for the Squire. JAMES NICHOLS PALMER Waynesville, North Carolina James would spent most of his time in the me- chanical drawing room if he did not have to drive the pick-up truck and replace blown fuses in West Hall. ANNA KATHERINE PALMER Waynesville, North Carolina Mnemosynean; Choir; Commercial Club; Folklore Club, Secretary-Treasurer ' 37; Forensic Club, Secre- tary-Treasurer ' 38; Ministerial-Missions Club; Photo- Nature Club. Kat is noted for helping Mary keep the Dean on the second floor half the night because of pranks, yet she promises faithfully never to do it again. We cannot help loving this sweet-tempered twin. MARY ELIZABETH PALMER Waynesville, North Carolina Mnemosynean; Choir; Clarion Staff; Commercial Club, Critic ' 38; Dramatic Club; Forensic Club; Min- isterial-Missions Club. Her dashing down the steps three at a time, yelling at the top of her voice, dis- tinguishes Mary from Kat. Such fertility of imagi- nation is not elsewhere to be found. CECIL WINFRED PARHAM Asheville, North Carolina International Relations Club, Vice-President ' 38; Ministerial-Missions Club. Cecil is very shy in the presence of girls, but he has been very active in the work of the International Relations Club. His chief interest is in social service work. GLADIS MAMIE PARKER Yadkinville, North Carolina Mnemosynean; Clarion Staff; International Rela- tions Club; Photo-Nature Club. Whatever Gladis was assigned to do she performed cheerfully and efficient- ly. Along with her work she had time for inspira- tional moments with Jack. ERNEST REID PARKER Cherryville, North Carolina Delphian. Cows ' kicking over his milk pails doesn ' t mar Reid ' s disposition nor his ability to excel in Sophomore English. No Biddies, please! [30]
