Cld66 of 1938 CARL BONNER CALDWELL Smyrna, South Carolina Delphian; Day Students ' Club; Ministerial-Missions Club; Photo-Nature Club. It ' s in the field of car- pentry that Carl excels. Before he ' s through, we know he ' ll have some well-constructed houses to his credit. JULIUS GRIFFIN CAMPBELL Centenary, South Carolina Cliosophic; Clarion Staff; Dormitory Council; Dra- matic Club, Vice-President ' 37, ' 38; Pertelote Staff; Young People ' s Department, Chairman ' 38. This P. K. from South Carolina has brought skill and intelligence to all the parts he has taken in the Dramatic Club performances for the College and for the Brevard Little Theatre. GEORGE MAURICE CARVER Forest City, North Carolina Cliosophic; Ministerial - Missions Club, President ' 37. George isn ' t half so solemn as he looks. Fun and religion go hand in hand with him, and he ' ll do his bit in spreading sunshine. JAMES FRANK CAUBLE Mount Pleasant, North Carolina Delphian, Chaplain ' 37; Baseball; Basketball; Block B Club; Dormitory Council; Photo-Nature Club. As a double for Joe Penner and a good duck of Bre- vard he can ' t be beat. Better he should raise ducks! MARGARET RUTH CLARK Skyland, North Carolina Mnemosynean; Folklore Club. Very quiet indeed in public; but her dormitory life — well, that ' s a dif- ferent story. ISABEL CLINE Newton, North Carolina Euterpean; Student Council, Secretary ' 38. The blonde of the campus, and preferred by one gentle- man. As Secretary of the Student Council she has been able to combine business and pleasure. MARY FERN COBLE Durham, North Carolina Mnemosynean, Chaplain ' 37, Treasurer ' 38; Con- cert Choir; Glee Club; House President, Virginia Lodge; Ministerial-Missions Club; Pertelote Staff; Photo-Nature Club, Treasurer ' 37, Secretary ' 38; Sigma Pi Alpha, Vice-President ' 37. Not even the sky limits the ambitions of Fern, whose sincerity and friendliness will long be remembered, especially by those who worked with her in the Choir and other organizations. PIERCE THOMAS COLE Leicester, North Carolina Delphian; Concert Choir; Dramatic Club; Pertelote Staff. Pierce ' s prominence in musical activities fore- shadows the realization of his greatest ambition — that of being an orchestra leader. [19] m

t Srevard L otte eae SARAH FAITH BECK Salisbury, North Carolina Mnemosynean; Fireside Club. Boys, take notice if you are looking for a really good cook! A sweeter girl is hard to find. KENNETH WILSON BEDENBAUGH Conway, South Carolina Cliosophic; Dormitory Council, President ' 38; Dra- matic Club; Football. Ken is a favorite Ross Bailer, one of the three P. K. ' s from South Carolina. Quiet and friendly, he never makes quick decisions, and is a valuable asset to our class. CLARK BENSON Lexington, North Carolina Delphian; Davidson County Club; Forensic Club; Ministerial-Missions Club; Basketball; Dormitory Coun- cil; Young People ' s Department, President ' 38; Clarion Staff. Clark came to us from Pfeiffer Junior College and in one year has succeeded in winning distinction both in debating and religious activities. DANIEL H. BOYD Murphy, North Carolina Agriculture Club; Day Students ' Club. Quiet, dig- nified, business-like — Daniel goes his own way. Very few of us know him well. KATHERINE MARSHALL BROWN Concord, North Carolina Euterpean; Folklore Club; Travel Club. Kat took time for her studies along with her outside interests. Her sincerity and helpfulness are some- thing to remember. GEORGE EDWARD BUCHANAN Bandana, North Carolina Cliosophic; International Relations Club. His hard work in the print shop has been instrumental in making our college paper one of the best. DOROTHY AMELIA BUNCH Asheville, North Carolina Mnemosynean, Chaplain ' 37; Choir; Fireside Club ' 37; International Relations Club, Secretary ' 38; Meth- odist Club, Secretary ' 38; Sigma Pi Alpha; Com- mencement Marshal; Pertelote Staff ' 38; Young Peo- ple ' s Department, Treasurer ' 37, Secretary ' 38. Dorothy has progressed from sponsorship to senior editorship of the annual. While attending to personal relation- ships, she has not neglected her international re- lations. MARY SUE BUNDY Monroe, North Carolina Mnemosynean; Agriculture Club; Block B Club; Cheerleader; Clarion Staff; Dramatic Club; House Pres- ident of Coltrane Home. Shorty ' s abilities are prac- tically limitless. She cheered our team to victory, filled our front page, and coached us in history with equal ease and willingness. [18]

reuan ARLEINE COLVARD Grassy Creek, North Carolina Mnemosynean, Chaplain ' 37; Glee Club; Com- mercial Club, President ' 38; Fireside Club, Vice-Presi- dent ' 37, President ' 38. Efficiency is Arleine ' s middle name. She ' s the girl who has the business head. ERNEST JAMERSON CORLEY, JR. Lexington, South Carolina Delphian; Folklore Club. Napoleon had his Water- loo, and Ernest has his firecrackers. War whoops and tiger roars warned us of the coming of Corley. ' JOHNNIE LEE COURTNEY Candler, North Carolina Mnemosynean; Folklore Club. If it ' s anything concerning athletics, Johnnie ' s at the top, especially in tennis. Her name suggests that she ' s an athlete. WILLIAM HORACE COVINGTON, JR. Shelby, North Carolina Cliosophic. Horace is rather quiet but is all busi- ness- good bet for anyone except the Biddies. MILDRED COX Grassy Creek, North Carolina Mnemosynean; Fireside Club. Jeep Number 8, with her pleasant smile, has worked hard in the home economics lab. Maybe she ' s trying to make an im pression on some young man; who knows? WALDORF STANLEY CRAWLEY Raeford, North Carolina Day Students ' Club. Though Billy is not known to all students, those who know him respect him. He is one of the bachelors of the English Home. EVELYN MAE CROSS Charlotte, North Carolina Mnemosynean; Commercial Club; Travel Club. Evelyn is a girl whom we know to be capable, de- pendable, and always ready to help those around her. Her attitude makes her one we shall miss. JOHN NORMAN CURTIS Climax, North Carolina Delphian; Basketball; Block B Club; International Relations Club. Norman is quiet and dignified on the campus but is always ready to answer questions on class. We have every reason to anticipate his success as a business executive.
