I T has always been the tendency of man to strive to retain pleasant memories, both of deeds and friend- ship, in his mind, ready to be brought to the present at the beck or call of his thoughts. He derives his greatest pleasure in life from the recollections of pleasant by-gone days. Without this backward look of man to his past experiences and heart-swelling acquaintances, his life would be vain. Man cannot live in the future alone; he must drift back to his past happiness if his life be complete. To help recall vividly the memories of college days is the primary purpose of an annual. In this second edition of the Pertei.ote, we, the staff, have striven to set forth in word and picture something that in years to come will refresh our minds and spirits, something at which we may look and have re- called to us a delightful past. We chose to use, in- stead of a Shakespearean or medieval hero them.e, something that will be dearer and closer to our hearts in future years. We are using as our theme campus life and activities characteristic of Brevard College as they will be portrayed in the scenes and snapshots throughout the book. We feel that these will be of greater aid in retaining such memories than any other method. It has been the endeavor of the staff to preserve memories, experiences, and events that will in future years give each student a happier and more abundant life. If this edition of the Pertelote is instrumental in preserving for you those significant memories of past days, it will have performed its purpose. The Editor.
