SMITH The scholarly looking teacher above was born and spent his early years in the small town of Dallas, Oregon. From his teens he was active in Christian work and worship. His college train- ing was interrupted by three years of service for Uncle Sam as a Navy medical corpsman. Returning to civilian life he reentered school and graduated from Whittier College in l95O. A year of past-graduate work at Long Beach State College followed. Since the Fall of l95l he has been a familiar figure on Brethren High campus. He is known and loved for his whole- hearted participation in all student activities. His ready smile and witty humor have kept student interest very keen in his classes of higher mathematics and laboratory science. For his service to Brethren High and his evident devotion to our Lord, we, the Annual Staff, dedicate this i954 Ambassador to Mr. Joe Smith. Caught off guard. School Board fSeazedj Mr. Clifford Yocky, Mr. Don Dyer fSecretar,Vf, Mr. Walter McPheeters, Mrs. Minnie Austin, Mrs. Floy Fisher. fStandingj Mr. Charles Andrews, Mr. William Coon fPresl2imtj Di' Charles Mayes Mr. Julius Levering. lt would be difficult to expres s our thanks to the School Board members for the many ways in which they have sought to expand ond improve Brethren Schools. Every student hos wit- nessed in some way the carrying out of their plans. The boys have enioyed having the new auto shop, showers and locker rooms. Also, the erection of the new elementary school in Los Altos will prove of value to many in years to come as it bears fruit for God. Taking time out from their own business, they have willing- ly worked to serve Christ by reaching young people through Brethren Schools. Because of such willing work on our behalf, we, of the Brethren Schools, wish to thank each and every Board member in this way. -----.-q.. Aclmini tration 4 dl' Bill Coon fPresidentl, Paul Ross fVice-Presidentj, Kay Cantrell fSecretaryl, Mr. Flory fPr'incipaU. ' The music department of Brethren High School is growing more each year. The instrumental segment ofthe music department is led by the orchestra. The orchestra has contributed its talent in the past year, hy playing for the Annual Christmas Program, the Spring Festival, and graduation exercises. The vocal segment of the music department, includes four groups: The glee club, the male quartet, the girls ninette, and the girls trio. There are 40 voices included in these groups. In the fall of the year, the glee club was striving to prepare for the Christmas Program. During the winter, they looked forward to the Spring Eesti- vals, which were well presented. The glee club and the orchestra, both under the direction of Miss Beverly Gower, have been of service to our Lord, through their ministry in song in the past year of 1954. ...ang .
