Cary Lang Les Wagner and Bruce Swaine scored Eagle touchdowns in this contest. The coaching staff was all smiles after a 14-13 Marshmen victory over john Burroughs. Bill Obrock and Barry Short each scored touchdowns for Brentwood, while john Scott added the all important PAT's. The un- predictable Eagles then dropped two consecutive games. The Marshmen suffered their first seasonal loss to Principia 13-6, as Swaine scored the lone BHS touchdown, and then were smeared by Ladue 46-0 in a game which has been officially forgotten in Brent- wood. The Eagles then emerged to down Affton 40 7 Dennis Kurre Ron Hatch Swaine Wagner and Lang scored touchdowns in this game and Scott added four extra points Swaine lcept the pigskin moving as he scored 18 points 11 a 4618 Eagle victory over St Charles Kurre scored twice in the contest while Wagner and Joe Stark scored once The Marsh each Scott again added four PATS men then made it three in a row by beating Mexico 19-14. Don Eaves and Obrock scored once and twice respectively. The Purple and Gold came out on the short end of a 21-17 score when they met Clayton. Obrock and Wagner scored BHS touch- downs in this game. The Eagles then put the lid on the season and ran by Maplewood 19-7. Obrock a- gain scored twice after Short had scored the first touchdown of the game. Scott added one PAT. The 1957 Brentwood unior Eagles under Coach Bill Long were termed by many The best lunior varsitv football team yet to come out of Brentwood The B team indeed demanded respect as they went undefeated he entire season scoring 107 points as compared to 19 for the opposition During the season the junior Eagles downed Affton 14 O Clayton Wydown 31 13 Riverview Gardens 26 6 and Pri ory 310 Outstanding frosh on the team were co captains ack Schindler and Paul Howard, jerry Drieke, Ron Hendrix, and im Featherston. This marked the first team of unior Eagles to go unbeaten under Coach Long. The coaching staff feels that this group of boys may well give Brentwood its first recognition as a football power. Kirkvyoods Pioneers put Brentwood on the skids by whipping the Eagles 57-51. Lauers boys then lost to Clayton 55-49 and were humiliated by the Uniyersity City Indians 60-47. The boys next fell prey' to last y'ear's state champs from St. Charles 57-42 and let VC ellston slip by 64-58. The mighty' Webster Stfrtesmcn then trounced the Eagles 80-59 ending the losing streak. Brentyvoods hopes after a 52-51 Eagle victory oxer Ferguson were short lived as St. Charles quickly put Lauers boys out of the Suburban League Tournament defeating them 69-49 'lt Webster. Lutheran fell to the Eagles 61-57 but in the following contest Nlaplewoods Leafs ran all over Brentwood, winning 60-37. After this one sided contest, Brentwood continued its up and down season by rolling over Mehlville 74-64 and losing to Normandy, 61-45. Only' three days after this loss, the Eagles started the Clayton Regionals by' downing the same team, 67-60, playing one of their best games of the season. Following these losses, the Marshmen ended their season in a blaze of glory by taking their last five games. Of these, four were won on the road. They were against St. Charles, Maple- wood, Mehlville and Normandy in that order. The only victory at home during their final streak was against Lutheran 52-35, following the St. Charles game. Bill Bond Sydney Wfeybrew, Tom Hrastich, Dave Pohlman, Dave Clements, Dan Bender, Don Short The freshman squad of Coach Bill Long didn't shatter any records over their 1957-58 basketball sea- son, but did manage to take three contests on ll game card. The Frosh started the season varsity and lost to Clayton-XVydown 40-27, The from Brentwood then proceeded to win their their a-la- Boys next two games. First, they beat Hixon Junior High, 33-26, and then downed Hoeeh 27-15. After losing to Ladue and Nipher junior High Schools, the Frosh netted their only remaining victory of the season, this being against Clayton-XY'ydown, 45-40. By losing their last five games of the season, against Brittony, St. Charles, Maplewood, Hixon and Nipher. the Bc iys from Brentwood wound up with a 5 win, 8 loss seasonal record. Rnu' Tim: Bruce Swaine, Gary Clem, Marvin Ketchelmeier, Butch Dickens, jerry Marshall. Run Three: Dennis Kurre, Les Wagner, Barry Short, Tom Bender. Ken Keller, Lynn Baird. The Baseball Eagles of Brentwood High had a good team in i957 and wound up with their finest record, l7-4. The Marshmen also wound up in a virtual tie for third place in the state baseball tournament. The Brentwood Boys started their '57 season right by knocking off Affton 7-3, and then were beaten by Rirenour 4-2, the eventual state champs. The Marshmen then went on to take their next nine, including their first three state tournament games. The Eagles slowed down and lost two of the next four to U. Cit and Kirkwood but won their fourth tournament Y ame 2-0 arainst Hancock. Brentwood, after losin' to Kirkwood. started another is streak, winning six in a row, before losing to St. Francis Borgia in their final game. This loss eliminated them from the tournament, ln all. the Marshmen went 6-l in the state tournament. The Eagles shut out three teams in l95'. Clayton. Hancock, and Lutheran IZAO while failin' to score onl' in the St. Francis ame. Z1 l which the' lost, 4-O. For the record Brentwood scored ll5 runs in ll rames l durinff-that s ectacular season, while holdin' the owosition to 49. l.ettermen F returning for the l958 season were Dennis Kurre, Kenny Keller. Rou' Tu'0: Coach Lauer, Dick Carlson, Ron Hatch, Don Moellering, Ray Schwartz, Ken Bohringer. The golfers of Brentwood High, during their 1957 sea- son didnt finish with an earth-shaking record on the links. but did manage to take one match and that one from Ritenour to begin the season. The team was young, how- ever, and for 1958 had all but one letterman, Clark Lee, returning. Last years team was sparked by the shooting of Tom Bender and Ray Schwartz who both qualified for the dis- trict golf tournament. Both of these boys lettered as did Marvin Ketchelmeier. Bob Burns and Skip Mange received provisional letters. Because of the early deadline, it is impossible to print the results of the 1938 golf season. but the Ifiztifr predicts a much improved team and a better seasonal record for Brentwood.
