SU Brentwood's Eagles opened the season with four decisive victories over Mercy C63-451, Coyle, C61-43l, John Burroughs C83-225, and Affton C52-49l. Following this great start the Eagles journeyed to Fredericktown and lost a heart- breaker, 48-46. After a week's layoff the reinspired var- sity ventured into the Normandy Christmas tournament and promptly knocked off Maryland Heights, 74-46, and Duchesne, 60-47. Finally, however, Brentwood lost to De Soto, the champions ot the tourna- ment, 76-49. Starting league play the Eagles were de- feated by Ritenour, 72-60. Brentwood then bounced back to slaughter Kirkwood, 64- 52, and Clayton, 66-50. Next on the agenda was high-powered University City. The Eagles fought valiantly but tell to the overtowering giants, 72-60. Next Brentwood handily defeated Wells- ton, 55-47. Then came the Suburban League Back row, left to right: B, Weston, J. Scott, B. Burns, G, Clements. Second row: J. Litzsmger, R. Hodgson, D. Brummett First row F. Brossart, L. Wagner. ARY Tournament where the Eagles ran up against University City. This game against the Indians was perhaps the best game the varsity played the whole season. Scrapping hard the whole way the Eagles finally lost in overtime, 53-5l. This loss mortally ruined the team for the next three games as they suffered three losses to Webster, 84-64, Ferguson, 73-50, and St. Charles, 7O-6l. Nevertheless, this momentary slump was broken with six straight victories over Maplewood C62 - 523, Lutheran 150 - 383, Normandy C51-505, Mehlville C86-661, La Due C48-457, and Chaminade C76-673. The Chaminade game was the first which Brentwood played in the Regional State Tournament. Next Brentwood faced Maple- wood, whom they had previously defeated, but were unable to do so this time as they lost, 47-38. Brentwood finished the tournament and the season by losing to La Due, 70-68. . .fy m-.4 Varsity Brentwood Wellston 47 Brentwood U. Campus Chatter, a weekly column in the EAGLET, was a product of .lanet's pen. She was the page three editor and a feature editor on the paper. The i957 EAGLE King is George Clements. George worked as activities editor of the EAGLE. On the paper he was business manager the first se- mester and sports editor the second. Each year, grades nine through twelve vote to choose a boy and girl from among the members of the school publications class to reign as queen and king of the EAGLE. The election is basically of the popu- larity variety since no specifications concerning iournalistic ability are made. Luckily, however, this year the two most popular also happen to be two of the best iournalists in the class.
