sS?Ol'y By Nfwcth KRONIF Here lt 1S already Saturday and I havent Hnrshed my feature story Whos Who xn Amerxca What Became of Brentwood Hnghs 1949 50 Semors Leavmg my oflice I bump mto my old frrend JEANNE HEY who tells me she IS the new home ec teacher at Brentwood Hrgh and that LOIS BERNARD IS also there teachmg mathematlcs She con gratulates me on mv latest best sellmg novel and asks rf I want to see the muslcal comedy at the Amerlcan Theatre wlth her thls evenlng The scenery for thrs famous show was des gned by MARGIE GIRARDIER and the beautrful costumes were made by DORLAS THOMAS Th1s hrt has been five years on Broadway and everyone rs slmply ravlng about that modern ballet dancer JOAN ROBERTS who stars ln her own orrglnal numbers Whlle we plan what tlme to meet a new super duper Jet on rts way to Mars zooms by overhead W know lf must be flown by that lnternatlonally famous test prlot RALPH SHAW After say mg goodbye to Jeanne my attentxon IS dx rectly caught by a huge blllboard srgn advertrs mg the spectacular new Dog Show at the Arena for whlch TONI MARTIN IS the head trainer The swn board was obvxously made by that great commerclal artxst WALTER BARTELS whose umque style IS famous the country over As I start my red convertrble I notice xt IS low on gas and drive to the nearest filllng statxon The attendant comes out and who should rt be but NEVILLE FROHWITTER who has sxmllar statuons all over St Louls Nevnlle tells me that he hadn t been feelmg well for a wh1le unt1l he took some of the new serum mvented by master mrnd Doctor TOM HADDOCK Oh' look who s dr1v1ng up now MARY JIM HOPTON wlth her husband and thenr large famlly They must have come ln from therr farm to do some shopplng ln the c1ty Leavlng the gas statnon I do not notlce a brg truck whxch has to swerve suddenly m order to keep from hlttmg me An angry drlver yells some thmg about women drxvers out the wmdow and I recognrze KURT HERRMANN who IS brmgmg some of hls prrze cattle xn to market from hns large ranch Smllmg and glvmg my apologles to Kurt I contlnue on my way to lunch After parkmg my car I meet CAROL LIGHT and NANCY COON just commg out of Famous Barr Carol IS kept busy !'3lSlDg her lnttle gurls to be old maxds she says' Nancy now a grade school teacher looks rather trred When I ask her what IS vsrong she answers that she has a real problem chlld ln her class and he makes teachmg very hard for her He has already been treated by two emxnent St Lours psychratrrsts JANE HART and DAVID RYAN but they could do nothlng for htm Even the world s foremost psychologlst BOB GREEN trulv a second Freud just shook h1s head when he saw the boy I tell Nancy that she has all mv sympathy and lnquxre whether they know anythlng new They reply they have just had lunch wrth HELEN CLARK who IS a busy soclal worker at an orphans home BOB LaRICO they hear IS at present ln the deepest depths of darkest Afrlca on a safarx huntmg rabblts DON OSCARSON IS a mlssxonary 1n Sweden helpmg to tram young athletes Carol tells me how a water prpe broke floodmg thexr basement last mght and her husband had to call rn JIM AKE who owns one of the best plumbxng concerns ln town A very drstm gurshed lookmg gentleman passes by us on hrs way out the door It IS GUY KELLER retlred multl mxllxonalre and mechanlcal engxneer Nancy and Carol leave and on my way up rn the elevator I hear my name called and turn to see AGGIE FIESER whom I know to be the Presrdent of the St Louls Women s Welfare Club She tells me that her husband and therr three chlldren are all fine and are gomg to Kxel Audrtorlum tomght to see the world celebrated trumpet player DAVE HITCHINGS who coaches an all star basketball team as a sndelme Wrth her she has a copy of thrs week s Lzfe and notlclng some of the beautlful 1llustrat1ons I look to see who rs the head of the art d partment to find that rt IS RICHARD SAD LER As Aggre IS on her way to lunch too we go mto the tea room together she shows me some thlngs of interest 1n the maga71ne There IS a pxcture of LAURA BROCKMEYER at the pnano rn Carnegne Hall an artxcle about the star professxonal football player RUSS STRONG and hxghllghts of the 1960 Olym pxcs at whlch JACKIE ELDERS IS leadmg all other women contenders Two models tramed by BETTY BOUGHTON the fashlon ordmator for Famous Barr come nn to show LS the latest styles Havmg lunch across from us IS BARBARA SCHMIDT who calls over her greetmgs and remarks that her doctors practice IS takmg up most of her txme Durmg lunch Aggle and I dlscuss the wonders of the magnlficent trans oceamc brrdge recently de srgned and constructed by that exceptxonal c1v1l cngmeer TOM BERNERO and the success of the brand new Umted Worlds buxldmg for whxch ROCKY APPEL was the contractor I leave Aggle and go mto Woolworth s for some more paper on whnch to wrnte my story This drme store IS one of the cham all across the 4Contmued on pag 553 Seuenleen l .
