MAL' 693' wa v 39 -eg 'if Class Prophecy On the afternoon of May 25, 1939, the Seniors are gathered at the home of Ruth and Margaret House for tea During the nilst of the fun, Miss Berryman, who is always eager to advise, decides that she will read the tea leaves to see who has the most brilliant future First, she gazes into the cup of Joseykine The tea leaves are in the shape of a large building Ah, it is a hospital Inside there is a chubby woman who has on white uniform It is our class pet, Josephjne She has worked her way to be the head nurse of a large hospital in Philadelphia As she looks into Ruth's cup, Dorothy sees another large building Well, bless my soul, it is Nokesville High School Moving slowly down the corridor go three famil lar figures Look! They are Ruth, Dallie, and Katlleen Kathleen has become principal of the school as well as being a very effic ent Home Economics teacher Quite natural, Ruth is head of all Mathematics classes Remember when she was the only one in class who could see through Algebra and Geometry? We see Dallie retreating to a room which is a part of a new addition to the sckool bullding It is the third and fourth grade room The new principal is responsible for the addition But look, here comes a small boy from Miss Frit+er's room,in tears Upon asking, we find that he just sassed the teacher and she smacked him Poor boy! Billy's cup is next There is another large building It is an airplane hangar Inside the adjoining office we see Mr J W Farpine, Jr , President of American Air ways In addition to this, he owns his own private plane and has just returned from non stop flight to Australia We hear an alrplane buzz from outside A small plane nautical instructor for Billy He has also just made a record world flight in 26 hours 19 minutes, and 21 seconds We hear hammering from the adjoining room After inquir ing, we find it is Flory Diehl who is chief designer for American Airways He has just completed a plane that will go 900 miles per hour Margaret's leaves are next There is anotrer large building Large buildings seem to be important in our class Upon close inspection, we find it to be the Peop e' Bank of Manassas Inside we find Niss Margaret House who is head ecretary of the bank She is the same Margaret we knew in sclool gentle and kind, and inclined to worry a bit Now Dorothy goes to Genev1eve's cup The scene is a Parisian Street We see two familiar people They are Genevieve and Sadie They have been so succe sful in their secretarial courses at Saks in New York that they are taking their vacation abroad this year When school closed in '39, they took a business course together, then in '41 went job hunting together, and they actually found one Sadie is planning to get married in the Spring She is a smart girl to have a vacation, and then a honeymoon Next, Dorothy goes to Betty's cup There is Betty in an elaborate skyscraper in New York City She is on the l32nd floor It is the office of John D Rockfeller, Jr Betty is his personal secretary and adviser When he is in a tight place, Betty always gives him sound advice As Dorothy looks into Lawrerce's cug she sees land much land Jake has become one of the foremost farmers in Virginia, he owns 1000 acres of land, 500 acres of for ests, a ten room housef and, last but not least, a wife Next is Luclle's cup A small bulloing appears It is a small dress shop on Fifth Avenue On the outside is written Berryman, Foster, R Foster Of course it belongs to Dorothy, June, and Luc le Luclle is the model Dorothy is the designer, and June is tke seamstress Business is very good, thanks Now all the leaves have been read and Dorothy thirks that one person's future is as brilliant as another fax AZN ' ll l llll K I I 5 U3 - S -----d- N , A I . , , ,, J , w e 0 ' H Q Q 1 h B. lands and two people emerge from it. Class History On a beautiful balmy morning In the autumn of '55, A timid band of youngsters Entered a sctool in wkict to strive Fears, inferiority complex Seized the hearts of entrant there, We began a routine of study Disobeyo We did not dare! We were scared stiff of the teachers, Especially our principal, Mr Blttle 'Twas a test to get acquainted With even ourselves so little This With What Digesting food and funv term was happily climaxed a picnic on Ha4en's Run, else could w but ask for, As Sophs in number and knowledge The class continued to gain, Toward the aim we set before us And the reward we wished to obtain Miss Hottle became our room sponsor Of the Sophs of B D H S We were glad to have her with us, Offering help at her very best Satisfied with tre progress we were makin Unknown to the trials due, our faithfll band of students would overcome all, we knew the spring of that year as the custom ourselves we would not deprive A well planned tr'p to some interest, So we traveled to Skyline Drive A new chapter was to be written In the book of will and new learning A desire for new adventure, Our hearts were patiently y arning We published nTbe Flashn our sc ool paper Nith vim, vigor, anc force, But still we were growing restl ss, Something else to be done, of course 213 llll nu lg X- ln x H IA -JI H S On the night of March 31 The lights and setting complete A tremendous success, 'Bashful Bobby Enacted for on1ooker's treat We had to remember the Seniors, Whose school days were ending trat year, So we hired a bus 'On to Richmond Observed interests there without fear As Senior , school days ending so briefh' But the tasks before us to do Were those that determine the making, Of ourselves for opportunities new We are but sixteen in number, But where there's a will, there's a way For the group that perseveres strongly To the heights of preparedness some day With a staff of competent workers, And a spirit of getting things done, Ending things which once were begun The Seniors turned actresses and actors, To personalities, changing their names, Eleven donned costume and makeup And presented a hit, Plain Jane Our ladder was nearing completion Built of learn1ng,perseverence and care, We were nearing the close of a beginnim To the noblest, for others to compare The Reverend Guy West of Roanoke Delivered our Baccalaureate Address, With such force and inspiration, We felt very highly asse sed Graduation night was before us, A speaker of knowledge and fame Delivered a self inspiring address For us to challen e a name Ne've arisen to the top of our ladder Blllt witt pride, confidence and skill But to those wto wish to build further, The world is yours if you've the will D - S - A ., 4, , .I of 3 YI o A ,S ' -- 3 n ' . 5 ' Our Annual nThe Flashn was published, .
