Twirlers Bring in New Drills The twirlers were more than just part of the band. Parades, football games, and contests of the band as well as sepa- rate twirling contests were among the events in which they partici- pated. They made up routines using two batons, fire, lighted batons, ribbon and hats. Having taped their music and made up their own routines they practiced during third period every day and after school. Mrs. Deanna Alfred did the critiquing for the twirling of their rou- tines. 2 1. Pam Dietz practices the ribbon drill on the practice field. 2. Out of a panel of three judges, five seniors and',one sophomore,were chosen for twirlers. .fff X Q ln order to try out a few qualifications had to be met. On mug obtain a B + average, be a member of the first band, have one year experience in marching band, and must try out with an original routine. The twirlers kicked off the Mayfest parade and added pageantry to the Fat Stock parade in Houston. They twirled in the Cotton Bowl with the band in the parade of Champions. 1.
