Cubs Break Old Records Members of the Varsity Track Team made impres- sive showings at meets this year. Mike Brown broke the varsity record for the 440-yard dash with a time of 48:35. The four-mile relay team consisting of Leroy Maxie, John Carr, Darrell Milam, and Wilton Lockett, broke the old record with a time of 19:59.25 The shuttle-hurdle relay record was bro- ken with a time of 36.99 by Roderick Brown, Elvis McBride, Curtis Ross, and Joe Garnett. The Cubs finished first at the Blinn relay. They finished third at the Chaparral and Rockdale relays. The Cubs placed fourth at the Gulf Coast and Gator meets, and also placed fourth in the District meet. The 440-yard dash relay team placed fourth at Regional, the mile-relay team finished first and Mike Brown finished second in the 440-yard dash. The mile-relay team and Mike Brown qualified for State. Johnny Perez also went to State and competed in the Cross-Country Division, placing 24th among some 80-90 runners. 1. Elvis McBride clears the hurdle. 2.
