Teaching lVlore Than 8-4 Job Teaching. That word which to students means the person who gives them unnecessary homework, test, and in general tries to make life miserable, has an entirely different meaning to those who have chosen it as a career. To teachers, it means having to get to school by 8 a.m., sponsoring any number of extracurricular activities for students, being on duty instead of eating lunch, filling out reams of forms to satisfy state requirements, staying until 4 p.m. and then taking home 50-pound loads of papers to be graded so they can be handed back soon enough for the students to benefit from having done the assignment. Yes, teaching is not an 8-to-4 job with two months off in the summer. It is more like an 8 to midnight job which requires the two months to recover so it can be undertaken next year. 1. Mr. Carter Dibrell shakes hands with Mr. John Beckendorf, school board pres- ident at a reception for teachers at the beginning of school. 2. Mrs. Lenora Zeis- chang takes time to laugh while working on the attendance sheets. 3. Mr. Calvin Kossie discusses different colleges dur- ing College Night. 4. Mr. Jim Van Eman talks with a student.
