The band cheerleaders, and student body went all out to show their loyalty to the Cubs, GAME TIME AT LAST! Our band was tops. How could they be otherwise with these lovely lasses to lead them? CUB SWEETHEART And here is a picture of Connie as she appeared at that game when she ma- nipulated the first kick -off of the season as her first official duty as Cub sweetheart THE SPIRIT BEHIND THE CUBS One ofthe many ways Cub boosters showed their support was forming two lines at half-time to welcome the team back into the game The Cubbettes sold booster tags each week to raise money to go to the games, They also sold Bumper stickers stating Cub Booster, Of course, BHS's pep squad, the Cubbettes, attended every game, and, along with the cheerleaders, led the cheering for the Cubs, The boys at BHS, convinced that the Cubbettes were not making enough noise, organized a pep squad of their own. There was much friendly rivalry between the two clubs, resulting in a super cheering section. CLUB - CLASS EVENTS September 18 was a big day for all Seniors, as that was the day the Senior rings arrived fleftj. The Spanish Club initiation fmiddle lefty, on October 3, led the list of such activities, including initiations for new members of the F.H.A, fOctober 81, F.F.A. fOctober 25j, Latin Club fOctober 301, and N.H.S. fNovember 25, On October 4, the BRENHAMITE staff held its first meeting flower leftj to get organized and discuss the first yearbook sale, to be held on the ninth, and class photos, to be taken on the tenth. Many BHS boys and girls entered exhibits at the Washington County Fair, October 12-14, Suzann Seidel, F.F.A. candidate, was crowned Fair Queen this year, Senior band members rejoiced when their jackets arrived in mid-October, 6 ,Q I, ' . After the boys had worked long and hard gathering wood for the Homecoming bonfire and pep rally, some prankster bumed it to the ground a night early, The team then built up another heap of wood and rubbish, This time they guarded it! Finally, at 7:30 on October 25, the cheerleaders, after leading the student body from downtown to the park, lit the bonfire, thus beginning festivities of Homecoming, Z i lf e-B4 HOMECOMING DAY A giant pep rally the next morning, featuring ex-cheerleaders, opened activities for that day, October 26, That afternoon after school the band led a procession of the entire student body downtown, where another pep rally was held on the courthouse lawn, Highlighting the doings that night was the crowning of the Homecoming queen, The four candidates representing the four class- es at BHS had campaigned industriously, and now everyone was anxious to see who was the winner Qmiddle rightj. Elaine Blondeau was radiant as she was crowned, and the crowds cheered flower rightj, After the game, there was a number of parties. High school students and guests gathered in the gymnasium, while ex- alumnae also congregated elsewhere, THE NEW YEAR After the holidays, Sophomore girls, under the guidance of the Junior cheer- leaders, began practicing for the cheer- leader tryouts fleftj, Ruth Sander received the highest score on the Betty Crocker test and, on January 22, was announced the Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow. Studying and just plain cramming came to a head January 23-25 when Mid- term exam time arrived fcenterj, On January 28, the Seniors met and decided on New Orleans as their Senior trip destination. The Daughters of the American Revo lution named Elaine Blondeau the D.A.R. Good Citizen on February 4, Boys donned their suits and girls their better dresses on February 15 for Senior class pictures fbottomj. juuivr-Senivr Plays Along with other activities, including the serenading of Maifest Queen and King, Diane Schoenemann and Fred Mur- chison, on February 14, juniors and seniors practiced long and hard on their plays.
