Class Day A ORDER OF EXERCISES Processional Song ' Speakers from Senior Class: Sadie Andrews Mary Edwards Isabelle Charters Song Speaker from junior Class: Lucy Roberts Class Song: Words and music by Jessie Dickey Recessional History of the Seniors -IQIO- RITE a history of our class! The task hardly seems possible in view of the fact that there is such a limited space in which to write it, while for such a class there could be written volumes upon volumes. Yet BUBBLEs must not go to print without a few words about the past years of these Seniors of Nineteen-ten, for truly we have a wonderful record. As a class we have always loyally stood together from the first, even in our Sophomore year We proved ourselves the champions of the school by success- fully defending the Seniors of '08 against the attacks of the juniors and Fresh- men, on April Fools' Day. As a reward for our valiancy on this occasion the '08 Seniors gave us a banquet. In our Junior year, our greatest feat was to Uswipef' the robes from the 'og Seniors and wear them proudly in procession, down town, in spite of the efforts of the Seniors to prevent us from getting them. Then on the night of their Senior banquet we caused them a little unnecessary apprehension, due mainly to their erroneous idea that we were going around to the back door, overpower two policemen whom they had stationed there to protect them from us, and bear away all their fancy banquet eatables. Instead of doing as they had anticipated, we marched boldly in the front way, threw open the folding doors, gave them a rousing toast and yell, and walked away with all the dignity befitting a class of our superiority. First, there is Myrt, the faithful president ofthe class, who came to us at the beginning of her Sophomore year, in IQO7. She was not with us many days before she was renowned for her zealous studiousness, first making her hit, I believe, in geometry under Miss Evans, and from that time forth she has kept up her good record. In her junior year she was duly elected to the Q B Z, which honor she most deservedly won by her excellent work. She has also shown herself to be possessed of marked executive ability, as will be evidenced by the fact that there is hardly an organization in school in which she has not held a prominent office. As president of the Honor Board, she could be compared only to Portia in meting out justice to the poor, trembling, guilty ones. She has taken everything in school, both that she wanted and didn't wantg among those that she didn't want was measles in .her Sophomore year, scarlet fever in her Junior year, and H- F- pox in her Senior year. Says she will count herself lucky to an unusual degree if she gets her diploma before she is beset by yellow fever or some other misfortune equally as bad. Desma came to us in 707 also, and at a few meetings, when our president has been absent, she has shown her ability as our vice-pres. From her first year she has taken a great interest in the Y. W. C. A., and it was greatly due to Desma's perseverance thatfwe succeeded in bringing our Japanese girl to Brenau from her home in far-off Japan. As a B. O. student she has always shown herself talented and her greatest ambition, I think, is to be just a little bit more like Miss Kenyon. It is our misfortune not to have had Louise with us but two years, and we realize what we have lost by not having her smilingncountenanee to cheer us through our Freshman and Sophomore ups and downs. As treasurer of the class she has become quite skilled-a regular Sherlock Holmes, I might say, in knowing when a Senior gets a check from home. Isabelle came in '07, and we have wondered ever since how we got along without her as long as we did, for she is gifted with such an unusually rapid How of words, that to save time, she has been appointed as a committee of one to voice the opinion and sentiment of the whole Senior Class at once. Her greatest ambition during the past year was to make CD B 3, and she was awarded this honor at the last election. Frances came in 'o8. One of her surprises has been her election to the df B 2, but her greatest surprise has been the -- pox. She has always been a steady, conscientious student, loved by everybody. Since the Freshman year Sadye has been with us to encourage and help us along the way with her sunny smile and happy disposition. I-Ier twenty-four hours may be said to have always been divided into three parts, eight hours sleep and eight hours preparing to look beautiful for the other eight. Everyone will recall, at the mention of Normals name, what her chief occu- pation has been during her two years' stay with us, searching through books, magazines, encyclopedias and all printed matter for any information whatever, on the subject of I-Iow to get thin. But the sad part of it is she is still fat- the Billy Bounce of the Senior Class. Norma is greatly to be congratulated on making the CD B 2' at the recent election. Laura Belle is one of the most dignified members of our class, and during the five years that she has been here she has not been known to break over three rules at the most. She has been an especially good student in mathematics, and could I look far enough into the future I can see Laura Belle as Miss Evans the Second. Dovie and Dessie have kept the even tenor of the way, spending the most of their time hunting for Mrs. Tisinger's key and looking up references in English. Then, too, they have always been Miss Hooker's star German pupils. Mae Frank came in '08, and it did not take us long to discover that she was a woman of business with a bright mind and an obliging disposition com- bined. She has been librarian for the past year. lt would take a volume alone to speak of Mary's gift of oratory, for during her three years' stay here there has never been a play that Mary wasn't in, nor a speech that Mary didn't make Qwith due apologies to all the others who have attempted itj. She was class speaker last year for the junior Class and this year she is the main speaker from the Senior Class. . julia has been here from her Freshman year and has been rightly named the busy bee of the class. She is indeed a spans' height of energy-courageous in everything except examinations, of which she has a perfect horror. Elected to the 0 B Z' in her junior year and overtaken by the H? pox in her Senior year. Alma, without a doubt, has been here since the year l. She is a regular parasite, as it were, to Brenau, and the question arises-will Brenau ever go on just the same when she graduates? Was made a member of the 05 B Z' at the last election and has always been a walking encyclopedia of quotations and historical data. - Clara, Effie and Mattie will always be remembered for attending strictly to lessons and always knowing them. From early morning until dewy eve they may be seen with a pile of books, and the library has always been their favorite resort. f Leslie has been here for four years, and it is ture that she has partially been the making of Brenau. She has done more to promote college spirit and class spirit than all of the rest of the school combined. As president of the Students' Union she has succeeded in getting many important acts, bills and documents passed through the Senate -one of these being the act of the Abolition of Capperyf' She is a girl of wonderful strength of mind, as will be evidenced by the fact that she has repeatedly been voted the most popular girl in school, without its ever turning her head. Marie has been with us only one year, coming here from Alabama Brenau. The editor wishes to apologize for not knowing more of the personal characteristics of Marie, but on account .of her numberless love cases having monopolized her time so thoroughly the editor has never had the slightest opportunity of inter- viewing her. Bye has shown, when it comes to the test, that she has plenty of class spirit and will stand loyally by or upon her class colors until the last. She has shown that she can do more to demoralize the school than the whole student body combined, when it comes to an epidemic. Lillian has only been with us a year, but in that time she has accomplished much. She has spent more of her time in the art room than anywhere else, and it is solely due to her efforts that the Seniors are so beautifully OJ illustrated in the Annual. Fay entered Brenau as a primary student and has ever had a great ability for 'making friends. Her class work has always been good, and her chief occu- pation has been going to town often, especially since R. M. A. has been estab- lished. A Then there is Lydie, Jessie May, Pearl, Nettie and Willie, of whom we could write the grandest record possible, but I am reminded that my space is limited, so I must hurry on with the concluding words that we have all worked conscientiously, faithfully and diligently, with the thought ever in mind that rising to the heights of Seniority is a golden opportunity, and especially Seniority at Brenau. ' When I close my eyes and imagine the future history of the Seniors, I can see a future brighter even than their past has ever been-and always in their hearts' remains a glowing pride, that they are members of the glorious Class of 1910. ejassm DICKEY. . .. , C.-.!. . ,im iv V I ,J f FZEEJ We 3? ,fr f ,Ili .l illjiilz-'QQW ' til, rf' Q fi ffllllluzllaiif 2,f?t lig'?? r wif rf-,fs-------W I ,l 'SS QF- - 1' ' '-Ls CQG- A -'Q 3 Q-5' 'Va v', -s ' Rickety-Hick! OTTO XV. G. PFEFFERKORN x 0 , 1 A X I Brenau Music Club N February 1, 1909, the students of Brenau Conservatory organized the Brenau Music Club, its purpose being to promote and main- tain a high standard of music at Brenau. Almost im- mediately every girl in the Conservatory was enrolled as a member. During the spring of 1909 the club was wide awake and at Work: they gave frequent recitals, built a beau- tiful club room in artistic mission style, and guaranteed a sufficient fund to bring Mme. Ellen Beach Yaw to Brenau for a recital. Their greatest achievement for 7OQ-IO has been the subscription of 351,000 for a May festival, to be held at Brenau May 20 and 21. Features, of the pro- grammes Will be the Pittsburg Symphony Orchestra, Dr. Franklin Lawson, Mme. Jeanne Jomelli, Franz Kohler and other famous musicians, i r alll W: 'Affx J 9 , ff' 5 ,e 5 f f 5 'Music Club ' Ojicers ANNIE COBB ANDREXVS . . .... . President LILY MAY PETTYJOHN . . . All instruments, to be sawed, blown or beaten, would be repre- sented if they did not make too much noise for so quiet a place as Brenau is supposed to be. The members are just as composed as the music and the leader. The orchestra swears by the latter, not at him. The Students' Union has prepared a peti- tion in which it is requested that one day in the school year be given them when they may enter the dining-room without an in- troductory lecture. Sleeping on the roof is, according to the local board of health, dangerous to physi- cal well-being and disastrous to reputations. Leslie has discovered a new system of correspondence. The method is not yet revealed, but the result is satisfactory if the lover is honorable enough not to read the confidential letter to mother that is enclosed in his envelope. Lillian Roberts is particularly fond of white Easter lilies. This taste is being cul- tivated by a close study of their pictorial value. Pockery Stings Tho' the ocean divide us I will be true to you. Ask Annie Burnett what kind of a ladder the Pockists used to make their midnight descent from the innrmary balcony. Miss Pearce can give accurate informa- tion as to how much peroxide is required per bump to insure quick recovery. By special request we are publishing the following: To Whom It May Concern: This is to certify that Miss Agnes Duf- fey did not have the smallpox. She strayed into the Pockery while asleep, and having thus been exposed it was necessary to detain her. The slight eruption was occasioned by a severe attack of indiges- tion, brought on by too much rich food taken at midday. Sunday night suppers also aided this malady. The other symptoms observable in her case were only such as might appear in smallpox, chicken-pox, measles, scarlet fever, mumps, diphtheria, cancer, appen- dicitis, earache or sprained ankle. I therefore feel that I can certify that she did not have smallpox, especially as the few that did appear were larger than in ordinary cases. The warmth and sincerity of manner and words with which Miss Duffey assures me that she herself knows she did not have smallpox is absolutely convincing. Yours in the profession UD, HDR. P. H. RL.'IHOLPH.,, Tennic Edwards cannot have the small- pox, as she does not present enough surface to accommodate one full-grown pox.
