fl! SIC' HN TAKS FOI? HBIGWB? Prior to leaving for the Western Pacific a pre-deployment dance was held with Hollywood movie, T. V. and recording stars attending. As far as it is known, this was the iirst time in cruiser history that such a show has been conducted. This offered the last Night-On-The-Town and allowed the men of Bremerton to be with their wives and friends.

Our Family Cruise Times are rapidly changing compared to the old Navy. When Bremerton put to sea on 29 September 1959, it was undoub- tedly unlike all other cruises. There were women all over the place. For centuries man has gone to sea. For centuries the sea has not only provided him with a Way of life but a refuge from the complexities and calamities of the every day turmoil----includ- ing Women. But times have changed. The Mrs. Wants to know what the Mr. does. The United States Navy has changed a little too. Centuries of tradition have gone out the Window Cporthole that isb. ln the last two or three years the Navy has embarked on an extensive program based on the theory that Navy men are happier if their families are happy. Many dependents, mostly Wives of Bremerton personnel, spent a short but busy day soaking up life aboard ship. They even stood Watches with their husbands. Ki

GDODBYE L0 G BEACH QQ N w 1-2 After weeks of thorough preparations, the mighty war- ship was ready to depart on herninth and final WEST- PAC Cruise. t There were many mixed emotions as the band played Sayonara to the departing Bremerton. As the time drew near, the last parting goodbys were said, a last kiss or handshake before we headed for far-away places.
