San Francisco Mid July found us in the Bay Area of San Francisco, called the 'Q best liberty port on the West Coast '7 by many old salts. Here, several of us attended the Fleet Ball 7' in Oakland which the city sponsored. In a fleet review observed by the Commander of the First Fleet, We paraded 7' proudly up the bay with other units of Task Force 16. A According to official instructions and notices our main purpose of Visiting Frisco M was to enhance public relations and provide liberty and recreation in that area. And, We did! I

According to the Seattle-ites, the Seafair is bigger and better than the Mardi Gras. And, they went all out to prove it in a Week jammed with parades, parties, water carnivals, Aqua Follies, and several huge street dances. Many of us witnessed the World famous Hydro-Plane Races on beautiful Lake Washington. After leading a column of ships, including the carrier Yorktown, cruiser Helena and several destroyers in a majestic Sea Parade down Puget Sound and along the Seattle Waterfront, we were greeted on the pier by a huge Seattle reception, including the Mayor, Secretary of Navy, a Band, Majorettes, Seafair Pirates in full regalia, and of course the Queen, and King of the seas, King Neptune.
