PORTLAND I' 6 , O 11 Only a few days after returning from WestPac last Spring, the Bremerton was steaming North for Portland, Oregon to take an active part in the Rose Festival and Oregon Centennial. Upon arrival at the seawall in downtown Portland, the City of Roses officially proclaimed the Bremerton as 1959 Bose Festival Flagship. Our four-day visit was filled With receptions, parties, contests and numerous ceremonies. Over 26,000 Portland citizens visited the Bremerton who along with the Helena, headed a veritable armada of 16 vessels that steamed up the Columbia River for the largest Navy visit to the Bose City in more than a quarter ofa century.
