But when the second semester rolled around the students started oft across the snow-covered ground to the new high school building. This new building is something that the students can take pride in. I math students work hard The Algebra I class is busy studying factoring. This year there were three advanced courses altered in the math department. Algebra I was oFfered to those students who have not received any other advanced training. A course in Plane Geometry was offered to those students who have completed the beginning algebra course. The third and fourth year math stu- dents were ottered a course in Advanced Algebra. 4 Denilyn Wilson, Bruce Sheetz, and Terry Miller are studying the model which explains the Pythagorean formula. scientific minds work hard i B.. ...ii Kay and Ralph find using the microscope very interesting. Gary, Rick, and Jim discuss some of the strange sounds studied in Physics class. The laboratory facilities for the physics and chemistry departments have been greatly improved in our new building. The room in which these courses are taught is now equipped with separate class room facilities and laboratory facilities. The laboratory section of the room is set up to provide the best use of the space available and to make it possible to work in groups of two or four. The chemistry students are each provided with a locker for their labora- tory equipment while the physics students use the storage room for their apparatus. Sometimes it's kind of hard to make those scales balance, says Sheila, Dave, and Bob. 5 Have you read this book, Alice? . learn culture y Ln Q? . -li 'rr' l if? l ill! .AA sir .45- Our new library has many new features that were not present in our old one. It has a lounge area, furnished with a variety of different colored lounge chairs, which are situated around a circular cof- fee table. The students may use this if i they wish to read magazines. l There are many new types of study l tables. They have round and square tables which seat four persons in addition to in- l dividual desks. T Dick is defining the vocabulary words to his classmates. Mike is checking out one of the many reference books from the library. t through language It looks as if Jenny, Lynn, and Doris are cramming for a Spanish test. The motto of all Latin classes is that Latin lives today. People do not realize that many of the words in the English language, as well as other languages, are based on Latin. The first year Latin students studied mythological stories gaining much knowledge in the cultures of countries. The second year students saw Caesar through the Gallic Wars. 7 The Spanish class under the direction of Mrs. Clemens has learned many things. They not only learned to speak, read, and write the Spanish language but they became more acquainted with the culture of the people and the country. Tom, Jenny, and Pat seem to be having fun working on their Latin. - ff XL il . feline., ,, I business students gain experience Bonnie and Rosalie are learning to do typical office work. The business department is supplemented this year by better machines and new desks. The stu- dents in the oflice practice class gain valuable experience by using the dictuphone and the steno- rette. The new typing desks make it possible for one to raise and lower the desks to their prefer- ence. Sheryl, Tom, Dick, Linda, and Mrs. Rarick are discussing Bookkeeping. Or are they? Mrs. Rarick is helping Mary Jane learn to type physical fitness is stressed Now isn't that cute? President Kennedy's plea tor physical tit- ness has led the physical education classes to utilize exercises and group games for the betterment of their bodies. Indoor track meets, workouts on the par- allel bars, pull-ups, and running are some of the exercises being used during the second semester. Health class is an important source ot learning about your health both physical and mental. Learning what makes your body work is learning how to keep it in good condition. Groanl Darla and Connie are learning more about health with the use of the plastic dummey. 9 get your m.r.s. degree here Smile, you're on Candid Cameral .Z The Home Economics girls, under the direction of Miss Tyler, were supplemented this year by many new de- vices. They have found their new demonstration kitchen very helpful in improving their cooking skills. The girls through book leorning and experience are be- coming better homemakers of tomorrow. Dorothy and Jolene admire the work of their new washer. l'll have mine sunny side up, says Miss Tyler. Irwin, Roger, and Jim are completing plans for their next proiects. I iust know it will go further than that, Duvet The mechanical drawing students work hard toward the end of the semester. The students of the vocational depart- ments are acquiring new and varied skills in their future work. With the great va- riety of tools and electrical machinery, the students turn out such fine products as lamps, furniture, skis, and hat racks. The vocational agriculture students learn valuable experience in actual farm work. varied social studies The students in the Social Science depart- ment have experienced many interesting topics this year. Sociology, defined as man and his problems, was oFfered. Few of the students realized when they decided to take the course that man's problems could be so interesting. Economics classes gave the seniors a bet- ter idea of how to budget and spend their money, wisely. The United States History classes gave the juniors an idea of how our country has grown and prospered. asap: .5 , Some of the Sociology students take advantage of study time given to them by Mr. Nierste.
