WE WCRK TO HUM OF MIXERS AND MACHINES Learning to care for the home, for personal needs, and for the needs of others are iust a few of the obiectives of the home economics course. Although many girls take this course to prepare for a vocational future, others take it to gain valuable practical experience for all walks of life. While in home economics, the'girls prepare for their tu- tures, in Industrial Arts the boys begin to prepare for theirs. Manual training is the theme of this department. During the year the boys not only work on wood projects, but also do metal work and drawing. ln these classes they learn to take the initiative and get their work done once it's started, Shop boys learn craftsmanship as they work on shop prolects. 19 The senior home economics class watches a food prepara- tion demonstration by Jeanette and Aloma. By operating the lathe, the shop boys can make varied and beautiful proiects.

'xg 1 Shown by the movie operators, this film gives the Ag class a view of better methods of farming Preparing for their future in agriculture are not only those interested in farming, but also boys interested in the care or repair of farm machinery, new and better methods of farm- ing, sale of equipment, machinery, or land, and materials handling. Besides getting a better knowledge of this subject, they also receive valuable, practical experience through such things as keeping books, buying and selling, planting and harvesting. All this and more is taught in the Ag classes in order to better prepare our boys for their vocational future. Farm shop boys practice useful techniques for future farm life 18

Suspense builds up as Mr. Nierste hands back government leSlS. i l l Lana, one of our student librarians, assists Larry and Barb as they use the card catalogue tor research work. All heads are turned as the panel of experts answers questions in sociology. When we think ot social studies, we usually think of history, but in reality, this is only a part of social studies - included also are gov- ernment, economics, sociology, and geography. Teaching students to learn from past exper- iences is part of the iob of social sciences. ln addition, these courses must also help us to evaluate mistakes ot the past and link yesterday with today. In doing this, social studies begin to help us to a better understanding of other people besides ourselves. Helping us in this understanding are the li- brarians. Whether we are doing research work, or iust looking for a good book to relax with, we can tind both in the library.
