Some stu- dents' achievements bring honor and recognition to them- selves and to the school. Others worked hard at camp and conferences to bring back ideas to make Bremen a better school. Still others spent their time keeping the com- munity informed about our activities. In each way, all these teenagers learned that the part we play as representa- tives is also important. Roberta Yoder compare notes after returning from Girls' State and Boys' State. Q-gqglggl Hi-Y and Tri-Hi-Y representatives brought back ideas and information from their camp last summer. Sprig Staff Tries New Advertising Miss Wiebel, Midge Powell, Tom Tucker, and Glenice Stephey find something amusing as they discuss a new venture, pictorial advertising, al- though it was mostly hard work. I Art editor, Catherine Klingerman, typist, Linda Booker, and feature editor, Roberto Yoder work together to make the Sprig a success. BOTTOM LEFT: Irma Slabough, Kathy Pfiefter, Joyce Baker, and Doris Connon hold conference to decide some details on a layout. BOTTOM RIGHT: Dick Kauffman, Dave Michael, and Gerald Wagley think hard to determine iust what pose would be best for a specific picture. During the school year of 1958-59, the Sprig room was the scene of frantic activity. Everyone's help was employed in our search for accurate information about our school activities. Our adviser, Miss Weibel, was always ready to help us solve our toughest problems. Somehow every question was answered, every problem solved, and the last pages of the 1959 Sprig O'Mint were sent to the printer. Editor-in-Chief. . . ..... Midge Powell Associate Editor. , . .... Student Council Discusses Student Problems Roberta Yoder, Vice President, Sue Balsley, Pub- licity Agent, Dave Michael, President, and Glenice Stephey, Secretary, discuss possibilities of guidance material with Mr. Shively. The Student Council was based on a new method of representation this year. In addition to the members elected by the students, a member from each guidance room was appointed by the teachers. They discussed stu- dent problems connected with school policies. The members planned all-high parties, worked on a Senior Directory which is to be kept up to date each year, and held a mock election. The Student Council members were in charge of guidance discussions concerning voca- tional and educational guidance. Tri-Hi-Y and Hi-Y Promote High Karen Tucker Kay Misner and Wanda Sanborn look at their completed Thanksgiving baskets with satisfaction All the Tri Hi Y girls worked hard on their baskets to cheer the patients at the hospital The Year 1958-1959 has been a busy one for the Tri- Hi-Y as they endeavored to set higher standards for the students of Bremen High School. They created good will in the community by making Thanksgiving baskets filled with food and cheer to take to the hospital, and caroling at Christmas time. They cooperated with the Hi-Y by spon- soring a Harvest Hop after a football game and planning the Best Girl Banquet. To raise money the girls sold salt- water taHy at various times during the year. The girls climaxed the year with the Ideal Ladies Banquet honoring the Ideal Ladies who had been kept secret all year. This club prepares teenage boys for the parts they will play as citi- zens after graduation. The members have performed several services for the benefit of the community such as setting up the Red Cross Blood Bank, selling beef barbe- que tickets for the Kiwanis, helping at the Hospital Auxiliary chicken barbeque, helping the Kiwanis sponsor the Kiddies' Day Parade, and repairing toys for needy children at Christmas. They also sponsored several dances for teen- agers, a hayride, and a skating party. One of their maior projects was buying a slow-motion proiector for the athletic department. To raise funds they sold concessions at football games and at the B-team tourney. They also had a pancake supper. '-iff' :IAA The F.T.A. is an organization which gives students inter- ested in teaching an opportunity to learn more about that profession and helps them to gain practical experi- ence. Each member gains one point per hour for assisting teachers and tries to earn 50 points a year. Special speakers kept the club informed on up-to-date teaching methods. This year the Del Kappa Gamma held an area F.T.A. meeting at Bremen. Student representatives from schools in this area were present to hear the talk on college requirements for teachers. 5113 .ms we-vie S11 ff ....,.....,.. ., T wi. e., .- ..t. 5 rv gg, mfr' iii' il .i,f'm..i4f Nev fltttlt A L 3 1 g ,5 . .. It was just as thrilling as we ex- pected. The days flew and before we knew it we were getting ready for commencement. Normal everyday ac- tivities took on immense proportions because we were doing them for the last time. As we marched down the aisle in caps and gowns, we were struck by the fact that our part as seniors was over and that we were about to take our place in the world where WE ALSO PLAY AN IMPORTANT PART. Honor Students Dick Kauftman, Gregory Bolt, Roberta Yoder, and Irma Slabaugh also worked hard to achieve high scholastic ratings. Other honor students were, David Michael, George Kiefer, Joyce Baker, and Catherine Klingerman. D. A. R.
