N paazmafaff sum in 1954 gunmen 564006 gunmen, Vazdimca We've finally reached our first main goal in life, which we've looked for- ward to ever since our first year at Bremen High. As we complete our last year here at the place which has given us our first real start in life,we rem- inisce about all the swell times we have had during our twelve years spent here together. We think of the teachers who have made it possible for us to reach our higher goals in life through their understanding and patience in guiding us through our lessons and problems. We'll never forgetthem--they've been wonderful! Our thoughts and thanks also go to the administration for their co-operation in yielding us the cafeteria for all the parties and dances we had, and for their help in making our parades and pep sessions ffor which they were so wonderful in helping us to make a success., We'll miss all of them, but we hope that we can show them rewarding results for all their time and effort inhelping us to become better prepared to go on to our own different vocations in life which we have chosen. We wish all of you the best of luck, and hope that your years at 'good ol Bremen High prove to be as enjoyable and rewarding as ours have been! Carol Birkey Editor 2 gm I I I School Board: W. W. CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN was its title, and it was put on with great success. The star of the show turned out to be Paula Smith, who won the Oscar lJr.l. Next came the planning of our senior trip. As in every senior class we all took the attitude of nothing but the best for us . It was this attitude that won us a four-day trip to New York. Boy, are we going to have a swell time! Something new was then added. Remember the confusion of selling candy bars in the athletic room? Well, we solved the problem. We got candy ma- chines. Now we have only organized confusion. Things lagged for awhile but not for long. We had a class meeting for the purpose of deciding what to do in order to make some of that stuff called money. We would definitely need some if we were going to New York in the spring. One little mouse with great ambition popped up and suggested we have a corn pick. Sound kinda 'hickish and back-woodsie ? Well maybe, but it proved to be very profitable. We all gathered at Mr. Anderson's farm one Saturday and tromped off into his corn field. He had gone through the field with his picker, but you'd be surprised how much corn it missed. It's surprising how we picked as much as we did, as we were all so bundled up we could hardly move. Boy, was it cold that day. Last but surely not least, we started our Sprig sales. This brought about the Sprig Jig. The boosters managed to contribute quite a sum, however, and to them goes the credit for this book being made possible. ,,. 1 gpgp X ri EON 1 my ij 'if filigfr TNQ. frm .,--- 'fig l a M i -Q: Qt it X. fi, L. if ,A is S it -' rf ,, as . , i . , 1 ' 3' if 'sq hu CAROL ANDERSON Always smiling and ready for fun, From the earliest hour until the day is done. Signed: The Class of 1954 Witnesses: Mrs. Smith Mr. Knoblock Mrs. King Mrs. Sieler W4 19 f'X '? Om pfaom Our Junior Prom was a smashing success. We really put a lot of hard work into decorating the gym to carry out our theme, Stairway to the Stars . With everyone decked out in their finest gladrags and danc- ing to the music of Kenneth Ha11man's Orchestra, the scenery was made complete. A11 this furnished our background for our King and Queen, Jim Laudeman and Judy Schmitt. We have the best of memories with us from our Junior Prom. 20 Om Seackn paw 764 wa Mr. Gilbreth Mrs. Gilbreth Ernestine Frank Jackie Dan Bill Fred Anne Lillian Martha Mrs. Fitzgerald Dr. Burton Joe Scales Miss Brill Larry The dog Ernestine -pre sent Frank-present Student director Douglas Miller Joyce Widrnar Nancy Weston Alan Huff Terry Schurr Ted Graverson Maynard Ealing Bill Stewart Paula Smith Saundra Yarian Carol Birkey Gloria Volquardsen Douglas Leman Roger Beehler Judy King Lewis Cox Skeeter Klinedinst Janet Ernsberger James Hepler Nancy Klinedinst Our play directors were Miss Irion and Mr. McNew. They also had great enthusiasm for the bake sale which they sponsored. During the last two years in high school they've lost and gained some pretty nice kids. Chet Simpson, DeVere Andrews, and Arvin and Marvin Weldy are the students you won't see around school anymore. Carol Huff, formerly of New Hampshire, joined them this year. 4, X l Yi as Q. The Student Council has again taken its place among the top ranking organizations of Bremen High School. Its members include those chosen by the pupils of each guidance room. Its purpose in high school society has always been to keep the school functions at a high level. This year each member was in charge of the guidance room from which he or she was elected. The title he held was guidance room chairman and he was responsible for a program from day to day in his room. Among their recent activities was the annual Christmas Alumni Dance. It was a great success, thanks to a good orchestra and a well- planned program. A Sock Hop, also sponsored by the Student Council, furnished another evening of good, clean fun for Bremen High. 50 fm, S Following right in High School Student Council's footsteps is the Jr. High Student Council. Just as much praise and respect should be given to them as to their upperclassmen. They have indeed been on their toes all year. Among a few of their numerous activities were these: they spon- sored a Jr. High party which turned out to be very successful: they es- tablished hall monitors for the lower hallsg Christmas baskets were made and distributedg they repaired toys for Christmasg Joan Gragg, who is chairman, had charge of the Christmas programg and they also discuss and organize the guidance program for Jr. High. These are only the beginning of a long series of activities they have planned for the future. As they have in the past, they furnished Bremen High with score cards for the basketball games. This benefits everyone who comes to the games, of course. They also took part in the district meeting at Akron, Indiana along with Tri-Hi-Y. There are many people who will tell you that Hi -Y is an organization to be appreciated. It is a club that has been active in Bremen High for many a year. Row 1: Terry Schurr, Jack Hueni, Joe Martin, Roger Beehler. The Tri-Hi-Y mousettes began their third year as a scurrying group of Bremen High by having a Wiener roast at good ole Lake of the Woods. The fun was enjoyed by all. Election and installation of their officers was next on the list of activities. Following this began a series of activities, of which only a few will be mentioned beginning with a trip to Akron, Indiana to a district meeting of Hi-Y and Tri-Hi-Y members. Soon after, they traveled to Indianapolis to an Older Girls' Conference at Indiana Central College. Their annual decoration of Thanksgiving boxes for the hospital was again a success. All the girls chose idealladies and the annual ideal lady party was held in the spring. The ambitiouslittle mice who have plans of making a career of teaching have been right on their toes this year.. There is a bright outlook for the next generation of mice if they have teachers like these. Yes, even intelligent enough to ignore and step around mousetraps. The senior mice were privileged to visit Manchester College and sit in on a few classes. Yes, the country mice packed their belongings and took off for the big metropolis of St. Louis, Missouri to see how the city mice lived. The most important reason was, of course, for agricultural purposes. It was a tour of the Purina Research Farm sponsored by Mr. Dallas Hepler. The boys had the chance to judge the different specimens of animals ofwhich each had been fed a different type of feed. On their return, every mouse agreed I like the wide open spaces. The high school G. A. A. has been carrying on their usual, yearly schedule. It is an organization of girls who have a precise interest in athletics of all forms. They take part in bowling after school certain evenings of a week and also on other evenings they alternate from week to week with deck tennis, square dancing, volley ball, and of course, lots of basketball. They have hikes and field trips planned for the future. They sold Christmas cookies this year which is a brand new activity for them. 58 Row 1: Beverly Gerber, Doris Connon, Pat Stanifer, Glennis Weldy, Helen Graham, Janet Knoblock, Martha Kuntz, Dixie Swartzlander, Barbara Lyon, Dawn Ann Bauer, Connie Gooding, Barbara Nehr, Sandra Wagoner, Nancy Beull, Row 2: Jolene Reed, Sally Swartzlander, Marie Silveus, Teresa Hummel, Mary Graham, Mary Enders, Charlene Grossman, Betsy Benson, Sally Oberly, Lorene Schini, Shirley Berg, Elaine Cooper, Judith Thayer, Mrs. Doriot. This fairly new organization is a booming success. Although it has been established in Jr. High for only a few years it already has about forty members. Some of the activities for this year were basketball, volleyball, and kickball. The club had two sponsors, who were Miss Pickard Knot pictured, and Mrs. Doriot. O I -fe Zfffffae ,fa ' W ,ar .. nv! The Bremen Lions gave their enthusiastic fans something to yell about this season, winning seven games and losing eleven, most of them lost by very close margins. We were proud of them when they defeated Bourbon and Argos, which gave them the honor of being the champs of the Holiday Tournament. Much of the credit goes to Coach Bunge for doing a swell job of coaching and urging the fellows on to victory. Good work, team! Zcwefaff Bremen's baseball team had an over-all record of 5 and 5. Potentially it was one of the best ball clubs in the county, but inconsistent hitting and field- ing caused a mediocre season. Roger Beehler did most of the pitching and Jack Hueni served as battery mate. Beehler's average was slightly over ll strikeouts per game for 10 games. Beehler also paced the hitters with a .370 average with Schurr .356, Hueni .310, and O'Connor .308, rounding out those above .300. 1953 Baseball Season 3 6 Bremen Madison Bremen Tyner Bremen Madison l Bremen Culver Bremen Walkerton 6 Bremen West Bremen Lapaz Z Bremen Bourbon Bremen Argos 6 Bremen Grovertown 71 5,0zcg0'77ic2zt'?
