Follow me through the pages of this, the second issue. We pause long enough to pay tribute to the faculty under whose guidance this year has been made a success. Next you will hnd the seniors shining proudly above the others and then the under elassmen anxiously awaiting their turn to take our plaees. Going on you will find pages dedicated to time well spent in activities and to sports, where only the fittest have survived, but where no one was barred. We, the Seniors of '41, are very proud of this book. Our only hope is that it will be- come one of your prize possessions, and that our efforts have not been in vain. CLASS :stony ln the fall of 1937 when the new school year began. some freshmen were turned loose in the Bremen High School to further their education. At first we. the fresh- men, were so busy finding the various rooms and getting off to a good start in our classes that we didn't attract much attention. As time went on, we gradually grew bolder and finally we started whispering and some of us even chewed gum. Some of the frosh in Room 11 soon began to disturb the morning assembly program. and thus the rest of the student body recognized our presence. Wie elected Wendell Burrous, to serve as class president, and when he left in the middle of the year. Vice-president Bob Hansen took over. Everything was going fine but during the second semester it was decided that there would be no more exemptions. That little ruling did not stop our class, and when spring came. we passed our exams with the greatest of ease. We did not mind going back in 758, for we were no longer bashful. The presi- dential services of Louis Carothers were secured. and the year was under way. By that time we began to realize that the school looked pretty bad. and. of course. our carelessness hadn't helped its appearance, so we decided we would like a new school. Some of the people in the community heard about this, and they too thought that there wasn't anything too good for our class. The state government had the same opinion. so they had a session of the General Assembly, and there they de- cided to build us a new school. As plans for the new school progressed, our last year in the old school drew to a close. When school opened the next fall, we were very much pleased with the new building, and we were aware of the fact that the government and the people in the community realized our worth and had given us the best of everything. Although all was new to us, we felt and acted as if it weren't, and when the hall lights weren't on, we just pretended it was a blackout. Not only did we have a new school, but we had new classmatesg and we elected one of them. James Bansberger, president. Our accomplishments that year were numerous: we operated the junior candy stand, gave wfiger Houseug and we enter- tained the seniors at the first prom in the school. At last we were seniors. We chose Earl Keck as our chief executive. Because we were older and more intelligent, our second dramatic production, 'The Merry Haresf' and our first journalistic attempt, the 1941 Sprig O' Mint. were successful. HAH work and no play makes ,lack a dull boy so we took a dayis vacation and went on a trip. We didnit know if the underclassmen could struggle through the day alone. but finally we decided that they would have to learn to do without us. COIIIIIICIICCITIIICIII S0011 Came. and WC donned Olll' CHPS and g0Wl'lS to l'CCC1VC OUT diplomas. When we left, they told us they were sorry to see us go, we said that that was just one of the sacrifices which have to be made in life, and they would always have us with them when they looked at this wonderful book. No, not a chalk markg it is even greater than that-it is a dent. Our agriculture boys-Roland, Mark, and Evart- became so enthusiastic about their digging that they forgot to stop, the result is, of course, a nice big dent in the earth. This is not the only mark left by our class. Oh, nol Let's go to Washington, D. C.. and take a look at the government oflicials. At the head of things is none other than the class politician land Democratl Richard Foltz. who defeated Esther after a fierce battle. He has appointed Louis C. to be Chief Justice. Of course, we have a Secretary of Agriculture, Roscoeg and Eudora is assisting with the home economics part of it. We have two Secretaries of the Treasury, because the national debt has been eliminated and we have so much money. The secretaries are Darlene B. and Mary Ryder. who spend their time pitching the pennies. u0ne of the South American countries has been honored by the appointment of Bob K. and Roger as our rhumbaing ambassadors. Marie and Rosemary are both married to owners of coffee plantations. and Betty E. and Betty S. are looking for two more. 'SNOW we go to Africa, and there we find two of the boys on a hunting expedition: 5Bring-Myself-Back-Alive' Alan and iAlways-Weddy-to-Wun, Weisshaar. Marjorie and Elnora are also there living with their husbands, who both happen to be scientists. Next we visit India: Instead of Chandi we find Maxie, who is loved by all of his people. Romance is going on just the same as always. and Cupid is responsible for it all. Cupid now is Dale Mentzel. Proof of romance is the marriages of June and of Mary B. Too bad he can't do something for Louella, Helen, and Virginia. They are out on the Sahara Desert looking for three bachelors. We are back in the United States listening to the radio. Here comes gThe Lone Ranger' fwendelll. This program is sponsored by Clauss's Crunchy Cough- drops. Next we hear what we have all been waiting for: 'J. Armstrong, the All- American Boy.' .lack is played by Earl. who is not a boy anymore, but he is young at heartg and the program is sponsored by Mabelis Mushy Marshmallows. Instead of Crosby we have Backhoff. The sponsor is Doris Craft's Cheese. We almost forgot lCang Busters,' starring Maynard and Jim. and this is sponsored by Lillianls Luscious Lollipops. Next, Johnny lCraversonJ steps out of store windows all over the country to give a call for a well-known cigar lHahn's Headache Healersl. It's time for 'Information Please' and the geniuses are none other than Bob Hansen, Madge. Kenny, and Elizabethg Balsley fLouie and Donj Baby Buggies are the sponsors. u0f course we have to read the funnies. How strange, Lil' Abner looks like Bob Z. and Daisy Mae like Mary S. Just below them we find Maggie and ,liggs lMarian and Bill FJ. Marian certainly is handy with that rolling-pin. Mr. Kleckner to Mrs. Kleckner: 'lWasn't that a marvelous dream?
