Presidential Classroom The Presidential Classroom for Young Americans was attended this year by Linda Makselan, Laurie Carney and Alice Casarda. They experienced a week of intense study and exposure to the American Government. Any Junior or Senior student has the opportunity to participate. The Program consists of seven days of activities in Washington D.C. In order to be eligible for this program, an essay has to be written on why you would like to go to Washington D.C. The students chosen through their essays spend an entire week in the nation’s capitol. It is recommended for all students. My week in Washington as a student in the Presidential Classroom was a memorable and rewarding experience. I learned about our national government first hand through many seminars by such prominent and influential individuals as Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and former presidential candidate John Anderson. I also learned more about our government by touring Washington D. C.. which proved to be a beautiful and intriguing city. Perhaps the most memorable aspect of the Presidential Classroom was the many friends I made from all across the country. Each participant in the classroom represented a different and unique set of opinions on various issues. My week in Washington D. C. proved to be a fantastic learning experience as well as a fun and exciting time. Never before have I learned so much about our own country and how our government functions.” Linda Makselan Presidential Classroom
